J. Rieger's Distillery Slides into Electric Park

Renewed Space Goes From Jazz Club to Tasting Room to Historical Exhibit

Article by Mindy Hargesheimer

J. Rieger & Co.'s remodeled and modernized distillery, now open to the public, is a true wow factor destination in Kansas City's East Bottoms district.

Part museum honoring Rieger's 130-year history, founding members, and storytelling keepsake materials, and part entertainment venue that simply compares to nothing else around (only distillery with a functioning 40-foot floor to floor slide?!), Rieger's three-story, 60,000-square-foot experience maneuvers you from underground jazz club to second story cocktail and beer lounge; from historical exhibit to gift shop; from private tasting room to glass-enclosed barrel room.

It's incredibly obvious how much attention to special details went into planning the epic preservation of this legendary and photogenic Kansas City establishment. Whether your personal palate draws more of a whiskey, gin, vodka, or amaro flavor, Rieger’s locally distilled spirits are phenomenally good, bringing an inspiring family legacy back to fruition in 2014 after a 90-year hiatus.

Spirits aside—including Old Fashions on Tap and a Fill-and-Label Whiskey Bottle Station—Missouri’s original distillery also serves up local coffee roaster favorite, Thou Mayest, for an all day, seven day a week caffeinated kick, as well as their exclusive Helles Lager collaboration with Kansas City’s only German-style brewery, KC Bier Co., in honor of the space’s original Heim Brewery Bottling facility.

Congratulations on this phenomenal project, adding to this city's allure and for hosting one glamorous and fun opening celebration! Schedule your visit now and experience one of Kansas City’s coolest destinations around town.
