A Weekend Getaway to Hermann

Whether you bring your girlfriends or go for a romantic getaway, there is plenty to discover and indulge in

Whatever your taste buds crave in your wineglass and on your plate, they will come alive here. Although everyone who visits has their own special favorite, one that stands out to most is Dierberg–Star Lane–Three Saints Tasting room. This is attached to the Hermannhoff Winery facility in the downtown area. Directly across from the train station. Dierberg, Star Lane and Three Saints offer California produced wine. It is owned by Jim and Mary Dierberg, who also own Hermannhoff Winery. They purchased the winery in 1974 and continue to raise its reputation as a place for education and entertainment. They also own Drum Canyon, Dierberg and Star Lane Vineyards in Santa Barbara, California, where they raise traditional European varietals. Today, the entire operation is one big family affair, with their grown children and their spouses intimately involved in day-to-day operations of the vineyards and winery.

330 East First Street, Hermann, MO  65041. Call 573-486-5959. Visit hermannhoff.com for an event schedule.

For the best tasting experience, Adam Puchta Winery can’t be beat. They offer small bites of chocolate and shortbread with certain tastings so you can experience unique flavors. There is one combo with a lime shortbread and one of their wines that ends up tasting like a margarita! It is a fun thing to experience. The oldest continuously owned family winery in the United States, ownership has been in the hands of the Puchtas for seven generations since 1855. Tim Puchta, sixth generation, and his son, Parker Puchta, seventh generation, continue to operate the winery, while son, Spencer Puchta, also seventh generation, has ventured out on his own. He still takes part in helping out at times. Their Estate Norton is award-winning. You can stay in their guesthaus or cabin for a little slice of wine country paradise.

Norton, Missouri’s official state grape produces a big, full-bodied red. This is the flagship wine of Stone Hill. The 2011 Norton and 2012 Cross J Norton both won a trifecta of awards, including the coveted Missouri Governor’s Cup, adding to eight other Stone Hill Governor Cup awards. They also use such grapes as Vidal, Chardonel and Vignoles. This winery is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1965, local farmers Jim and Betty Held, with their four children, purchased and moved into the original winery and restored it, along with the restaurant.
