Founded in North Hollywood in 1946, Angelus Block Co., Inc. now operates seven concrete block and paver plants throughout Southern California, giving Angelus the largest block and paver manufacturing capacity in the region.
Owned by its founding family and privately held, Angelus Block has become the largest such business in the West with the greatest production capacity in the area. Of course, the manual presses and nascent automated machines have been replaced by modern technology and robotics, yet the guiding ethics and principles that built a business from scratch have remained and continue to inform management in today's complex business environment.
“The Oxnard plant in particular is unique in that it is the only plant in the company to make both concrete pavers and concrete block,” says Tom Murphy, Angelus Paver Sales Manager, noting that a number of recent improvements have been made to the Oxnard plant, including new block machines and kiln systems and an increased property footprint “that indicates our dedication to our continued presence in the region.”
The business is known for offering a wide range of concrete paving products to accommodate many design possibilities and price points. Angelus has brought to market contemporary, linear styles, such as the Aqualina paver; large format pavers for patios and pool decks, like the Paseo and Pavilion lines; as well as rustic options, including the Timberline paver and tumbled Estate Cobble and Castle Cobble lines. The most popular stone in their line is the Courtyard Paver.
“We maintain a full service staff to provide architectural, design, construction and homeowner assistance at all phases of the project,” Murphy notes, adding that Angelus is the only concrete paver manufacturer based in Ventura County, “which allows us to rapidly and conveniently service our customers’ needs.”
As far as the future is concerned, “We are working on launching our Permeable Courtyard and Permeable Slate pavers which will provide more attractive options for homeowners who would want the benefits of permeable pavers for their properties,” Murphy says.
Over the past seven decades, Angelus Block's product offerings evolved along with the sophistication of Southern California's architecture, changing design tastes and improved manufacturing capabilities.
