In the Memphis community, Greg Baudoin is synonymous with beautiful interiors and satisfied clients. When asked about his specialty, Greg said, “Every project is unique because every client is unique. Creating well-edited interiors that reflect each client’s personality and style keeps the job both challenging and rewarding. Having a happy client at the end of a project is the best part.” Greg mentioned a particularly satisfying project in which he helped a client move from a grand, historic mid-town home to a repurposed riverfront warehouse, producing a complete transformation in terms of architectural and interior style.

As passionate as Greg is about interior design, he is equally passionate about supporting the Memphis arts community and broadening access to interior design. According to Elizabeth Rouse, President and CEO of ArtsMemphis, Greg has raised $1.4 million and engaged hundreds of new arts supporters through his involvement in fundraisers such as ARTAFACTOR, ArtsMemphis Culinary Series, and the founding of the very successful Art by Design event. Elizabeth says, “Greg’s leadership, generosity, and commitment to growing arts support through innovative, fun and unique experiences continues to be transformative for ArtsMemphis.”

In addition to ArtsMemphis, Greg is deeply involved in the Decorative Arts Trust, and the Carpenter Art Garden. Greg says, “I feel it is important to support the arts across their lifecycle, from early childhood exposure and education, to promotion and funding, and finally to preservation and appreciation.”

This wholistic approach to supporting the arts is what inspired Greg to create Art by Design, an annual curated series of events highlighting Memphis’ interior design community and promoting the city’s artists and arts organizations.

The 2019 Art by Design event garnered over 1600 attendees and approximately 300 new donors to ArtsMemphis. This series included multiple levels of event access, from a VIP cocktail party to educational speakers, and free admission to curated interior design vignettes. Greg’s intent was to “highlight all of the facets of our lives impacted by artists and designers across multiple disciplines, including music, culinary arts, fashion, landscape design, visual arts, and floral design.” Art by Design is back this year, after cancellations due to Covid, and will be held in late summer. Stay tuned for more!

Greg’s path to interior design was not linear. In college, he began studying architecture but graduated with a business degree. He then joined the ranks of corporate America as a process designer, where he was focused on maximizing efficiency in systems. This goal ultimately necessitated eliminating his own job - but not before taking on his first interior design project, when he was asked to decorate the training room. In 2002 he launched his interior design career.

“When I reflect on the past twenty years in interior design, I am as proud of the meaningful relationships I’ve built as I am the spaces created through them. My philanthropic work and the time I devote to the causes and organizations for which I am passionate are a natural extension of that.”
