It's been said, by definition, that white and black aren't actual colors because they do not have specific wavelengths. White is not defined as a color because it is the sum of all possible colors. Black is not defined as a color because it is the absence of light, and therefore color. Influencer Joelle Masterson might agree. "I don't really like color. I think I drove my mom crazy with that growing up. I want everything to be cohesive and match but I like to mix different prints to make it fun and funky. I don't know where it comes from."
Joelle's Epically Stylish Instagram and lifestyle blog covers everything from fashion and motherhood to beauty and home decor. "If you want a black and white home decor inspiration, I hope I'm who you think of." But she adds, "I also want to inspire moms - you CAN create a brand and do it with a baby on your hip."
Masterson moved to Nashville from Chicago to grow her father's event fencing business. She was also styling celebrities on the side and developed Epic Rain, an online boutique focused on the clothes of women in music. Covid slowed down both the fencing business and Epic Rain, (Epic Rain does have a new swimsuit line for 2021), so influencing began to take precedence. Joelle says, "I like motivating people. I want to inspire other women to get out there and lift each other up."
And in keeping with her black and white aesthetic, Masterson decided to paint her house black. "The outside didn't match the inside. For me personally, it did not fit. I almost painted it white. I'm a big believer that the outside of your house does tell a story." Masterson adds, "The response has been wild! People drive past our house, stop and take pictures! I feel like I'm inspiring people!"
