Shellnut Insurance and Associates is proud to call Franklin home. The executive team consists of the owners Eric and Teresa Shellnut, their sons Tyler and Gavin, and Gavin’s wife Hannah Shellnut. For over 25 years, they’ve made it their mission to offer affordable protection and personalized service while simultaneously giving back to local nonprofits. Between their quarterly charity program and countless volunteer hours, the family always strives to make a positive impact on the community they love.
For their quarterly charity program, the Shellnut family votes on their favorite Middle Tennessee charities and then they’ll dedicate 3 months to the one they decide on. Every time the agency receives a referral from a customer, $5 is donated to the charity. When someone calls for a home or auto quote because of a friend’s recommendation, they’ll not only be benefiting themselves, but their community as well. Hannah Shellnut, Director of Marketing, says, “Through this quarterly charity program, over the past 2 years we’ve been able to give back over $55,000.”
Last quarter, Shellnut donated to Davis House, which combats child abuse. For April, May, and June, Shellnut will be giving back to Women of Williamson (WOW). This nonprofit stood out to Hannah because of her high school teaching background. She realizes many women are not
fortunate and believes it’s important to give young women the chance to further their education despite the hardships in their lives. Women of Williamson established a scholarship for female students living in Williamson County who desire higher education, but need financial support.
WOW also helps funding for other scholarships that will allow women to complete their two or four year degree. In addition, Women of Williamson supports Bridges Domestic Violence Center, End Slavery Tennessee, and breast cancer awareness.
Many of the charities the Shellnut family is involved with empower and support women and children. Eric Shellnut is on the Board of Directors for My Friend’s House (MFH) which focuses on turning youth with bad behavior into responsible life learners. Gavin Shellnut is on the Young Professionals Board for A Vintage Affair. This nonprofit hosts wine-related events that raise money and awareness for women and children in the most dire need in Williamson County. Over the last 20 years, they’ve been able to give over $2 million to their beneficiaries. Shellnut Insurance enjoys participating as a team at the annual Grape Stomp event in the fall.
Hannah Shellnut is on the dinner committee for GraceWorks Ministries’ annual benefit dinner. This year marks their 25th birthday so they’re going above and beyond to celebrate. Their four main program areas are Family Support, Instructional Programs, Seasonal Needs, and Hunger
Prevention (F.I.S.H.). The Shellnut family is often seen working at their food pantry. This food pantry has fed 10,000 unduplicated individuals and was recently named the healthiest in Middle Tennessee. Another reason they love this nonprofit is because of its fuel bag program for students. Every Friday, 700 kids go home with a bag of nutritional groceries to last the weekend.
Giving back is part of the Shellnut family’s livelihood. Their volunteer efforts and quarterly charity program have contributed in building the respectable agency they are today. They’re excited to see how they can help Women of Williamson in the upcoming months. It’s their business to know how to prepare for the unknown and now more than ever the community can look to them for guidance.
