Let's WERK

When your fitness WERKs, your life works too

Some people walk, run, or bike — some people, like Kevin Stecher and Dan Williams, WERK.

"I'm an avid golfer in my 50's," said Kevin. He found something surprising that WERKs great for his golf game.

"My cholesterol was in the danger zone, and I had to go on medication," said Dan. "After about a month of WERK, I had my blood work retested, and everything was back in the normal range."

What is WERK? Chris Dudenbostel, the general manager at SPENGA, explains. "SPENGA is a studio class that combines the three pillars of fitness – cardio, strength, and flexibility. WERK is a play on the word "WORK." The "E" in WERK is actually three green bars representing the three phases of a SPENGA session."

SPENGA is a 60-minute, instructor-led class where members, or CREW, spend 20 minutes in each of the three phases of SPENGA - spin, strength, and yoga.

"I knew I needed the cardio and the strength training," said Kevin. "What came as a tremendous surprise was how the 20 minutes of yoga improved my golf game. My flexibility increased, and my back pain after a game decreased."

"Yoga is my favorite part of SPENGA," said Dan. "I had never been part of a workout program or a gym before. But I needed to get healthy. Over the past three months, I've lost over 25 lbs. and my body shape has completely changed just from going to SPENGA." Dan is also the fastest person to reach 100 days of WERK at the SPENGA Studio.

"The fact that someone has shown up for 100 workouts is phenomenal," said Chris. "We celebrate those members with all the joy in the world because they are not just dedicated to their WERK routine, but their lifestyle."

SPENGA is for people of all ages and fitness levels looking to find a community. "The great thing about SPENGA is that our workouts bring people together," explained Chris. "People have formed friendships outside of a SPENGA workout. These people are completely different but have found a common connection through WERK."

Owners Eric and Donna Moss have opened St. Louis' first and only SPENGA on 11676 Manchester Rd in Des Peres. For more information, visit desperesmo.spenga.com
