5 Star Review Of "Nomadland"

2021 Academy Award Winner For Best Picture, Best Director (Chloe' Zhao) and Best Actress (Frances McDormand)

Winner of two Golden Globes and three Academy Awards, including the Oscar for Best Picture, "Nomadland" takes viewers into the life of Fern (Frances McDormand), a woman in her sixties who finds herself struggling with the loss of her husband, her job and now her home -- as the Great Recession has all but wiped from existence the small town in which she resides in rural Nevada.

Left with few choices, Fern embarks into the sub-culture life as a van-dwelling nomad, becoming one of the thousands of people who journey throughout the Southwest regions of the United States, trying to keep themselves afloat. And, as she begins to acclimate to her new life, she starts to find an inner peace she wasn't expecting from this way of life, taking in the beauty that surrounds her, while embracing the companionship she has found amongst her fellow roamers.

Cinematically breathtaking every step of the way, "Nomadland" will envelop you within the existential beauty this country holds, while it takes you on a journey that many throughout our country willingly embark upon. I found myself totally mesmerized by the natural beauty of this film, the exceptional performance by Frances  -- it's as if this role was created especially for her -- and the adventure this film allows to take place with the many real-life nomads who were willing to allow director Chloe' Zhao and Frances to bring their lives to the screen.

I suggest you view this film at a theater, as it should be experienced on the biggest screen you can find! But, if it's no longer available at a theater, view it on a streaming service instead; just make sure to catch this fabulous Oscar-winning film any way you can.

Did you know "Nomadland" was filmed in seven states over the course of four months? And that the 25-member movie crew embedded themselves in the real nomad community, personally living out of vans for the shoot?
