Ride in Style

Explore cities and enjoy the fall foliage across Missouri’s rolling hills riding in style on Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner train.

Discover the joys of traveling as you relax in spacious seats with wide windows and plenty of room to stretch your legs. Hop on the train and enjoy day trips to Washington, Hermann, or Jefferson City. Bring your bike on board to explore the cities on two wheels. Did you know that Kirkwood is the third busiest train station in Missouri and is staffed entirely by volunteers? In 2014, the train station was rated number one among Amtrak stations across America for “overall station experience.” Kirkwood’s historic train station was built in 1893. When the station was on the verge of closing in 2002, the city of Kirkwood purchased the station from Amtrak in 2003. Spend a lovely day in Washington, Missouri exploring the Corn Cob Pipe Museum, the Gary Lucy gallery, an olive oil tasting bar, and one of their many acclaimed restaurants like the Tilted Skillet. If you are planning on taking the train to Hermann, book your trip early. The Missouri River Runner train fills up fast, starting in October. Once you arrive in Hermann, start your tour of the city by getting off the Amtrak and onto the Hermann Trolley. The trolly will take you in comfort and style to five local wineries and excellent shopping locations. Celebrate Missouri’s Bicentennial this year in Jefferson City. On September 18, Downtown Jefferson City will celebrate the swearing-in of Missouri’s elected officials as well as highlight the history and significance of all 114 counties across the state. Discover the majesty of Missouri as you ride in style down the track on a train.

Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner route operates twice daily between St. Louis and Kansas City, with stops at Kirkwood, Washington, Hermann, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Warrensburg, Lee’s Summit, and Independence. One-way tickets start at $14. For tickets, schedules, and trip information, visit www.amtrak.com
