“Meet me at the Dandelions” may soon be a phrase heard throughout the Kirkland community. But what are the Dandelions and where are they?

The Village at Totem Lake just unveiled “Dandelions”, a new public art project from internationally renowned artist Mirek Struzik. This whimsical art installation is comprised of three individual metal sculptures that curve gently up to the sky and stand a majestic 14–16 feet high. Meant to instill feelings of nostalgia while sparking hope, dreams, conversations and whimsy, the dandelions are light, airy and striking in appearance, and will be lit at night for added allure.

The Village at Totem Lake developer CenterCal Properties collaborated with the City of Kirkland’s Cultural Arts Commission to bring the sculptures to the community. "Kirkland is thrilled to welcome the Dandelions by internationally known Polish artist, Mirek Struzik, to our public art collection." said Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission Chair Dana Nunnelly. "Struzik is known for his dramatic use of scale with objects from nature, and the magical experience of the lighting at night is not something to be missed!"

"The Commission especially enjoyed the relationship with CenterCal Properties,” Dana added. “They were a dream to work with on this installation."

“The Dandelions are a great addition to The Village and inject some playfulness to our park-like setting,” states Elizabeth Clipp Martin, development director, CenterCal Properties. “The sculptures are well lit and bring added warmth and richness after dark, which movie-goers and restaurant patrons will enjoy.”

CenterCal Properties is known for memorable placemaking which includes integrating public art into its projects but also adding an element of play. In addition to the Dandelion sculptures, children will be delighted to find play equipment providing a unique and magical way to experience public art – spinning beneath the Dandelions.

Come and check out the new sculptures located near Cinemark. And while you’re there, enjoy shopping at favorites like lululemon and Sephora or grab some ice cream at Salt & Straw. Meet you at the Dandelions!
