Authentically European

Euromart Specialty Grocery Store Brings Tulsa the Best Selection of European Food and Delicacies

Tucked into a corner at 71st & Memorial is a small grocery store full of nostalgia and lifelong memories. No, it’s not your typical grocery store. This unique store is filled to the brim with carefully selected culinary and gift items from Europe.

Gary Copper is the owner of Euromart, known for its vast selection of cheese, meats and fish, chocolates, jams, breads, coffee, teas and Old-World herbs and vegetables.

Euromart chooses brands made by artisan family-owned companies crafting recipes for immigrant and ethnic customers who will not accept anything but the best. Inventory changes frequently, but everything comes from European countries, and it is Copper’s passion to ensure that each and every item is authentic.

He says, “I don’t carry any look-a-like or ‘European-style’ items. Euromart carries the same things that people in those countries have in their homes. In the case where there is an American version and a European version, such as chocolate, I carry the European version.”

Forgotten Flavors

We all have food connections. Certain tastes and smells can instantly take you back to your grandmother’s kitchen or a wonderful childhood memory that can be restored with a special treat. Copper takes pride in capturing the flavors of our childhood that our grandparents knew very well--Flavors like rhubarb, gooseberry, and black mulberry jam.

Copper makes it clear that he isn’t simply selling food and treats, he’s selling memories. He says the products mean something to his customers and he is more than happy to bring those happy memories to life. For instance, a popular holiday favorite is Russian Chak Chak, big noodles that are fried and covered in honey and almonds. It is a sticky and sweet dessert that is absolutely delicious.

The Party Place

There’s no place better than Euromart for the best selection of meats and cheeses for upcoming holiday parties. Impress your guests with a charcuterie board filled with cheeses from Denmark, Finland, or Poland. Tickle their tongues with olives from France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, or Israel. Each country’s spices, weather, and soil contribute to their difference in flavor.

Looking to host an Oktoberfest gathering or football game? Euromart carries a large variety of German sausages, sauerkraut, pickles, breads, and mustards.

Copper mentions that his German sausage isn’t mass produced for the public. His products are from a German family making sausages for their German neighbors and their newly arrived relatives who have settled in places like Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and St. Louis. The well-known brands are too lengthy to list, but include Boback’s, the official hotdog of the Chicago Bears football.

Expand Your Palate

Euromart carries a diverse selection of products, not just products from a country that is known for a certain item.

Copper says, “Germany is known for its pickles. But Poland makes one of the best pickles I’ve ever had. Hungarian pickles are amazing. And I have Romanian pickles from Transylvania that are out of this world. I like variety and being able to offer my customers lots of choices.”

Sip Like a Queen

Travelers will see the same items they have enjoyed all over Europe. For the anglophile, Euromart carries a wide selection of teas and other products with the Royal Warrant. This endorsement is like the Good Housekeeping seal of British Royalty. Copper stocks biscuits (cookies), jams, and the same teas that Queen Elizabeth and the Royals drink every day.

Better Breads

Breads are one-of-a-kind and are shipped from Europe and U.S. bakeries in the northeast. Many people who may be restricted from eating bread might be able to enjoy the breads offered at Euromart. Copper says to check with your health professional first, but many of his customers say they can now eat bread because of healthier ingredients such as European wheat strains, barley, rye, oats, molasses, and fiber.

Special Requests

Special requests are always welcome. Copper is amazed by some of the items he has ordered from around the world. Rose petal jam from Armenia, green walnut preserves from Persia, and salmon and other fish from the Arctic seas north of Russia.

There are so many countries, and it is difficult to know about all the traditional foods available. Copper relies on his customers for inspiration and guidance. One special request was for smoked eel. He worked for nearly six weeks to find it and was thrilled to call his customer with the good news.

As the weather gets cooler, he will get requests for Turkish Delight, a traditional dessert made from gel flavored with rosewater, bergamot orange, or lemon. The requests always come as students read The Chronicles of Narnia in the fall. The candy is one of the main character’s favorite sweets offered to him by The White Witch.

European Gifts

In addition to food, Euromart offers gifts and souvenirs from Europe. Whether you choose a German wool scarf, Brown Betty British teapot, Russian apron, Irish St. Patrick’s Day shirt, Holland teacups, or wooden Russian nesting dolls, your loved ones will treasure their heartfelt gifts for a lifetime.
