It may look like your grandfather's shop with the traditional weathered leather chairs and flashy chrome; however, Wastler's Barber Shop on W. Market is anything but that. Manager Wes Garland says, "We may be the oldest shop in town but we are up to date on the latest styles and trends. Whether it's a cutting-edge or a 'regular' haircut, or an indulgent, spa-like shave you crave, we have a barber for you."
Wes tells us that styles that have a fade on the sides and a longer top continue to be popular requests, as well as the pompadour, buzz-cut and flat top.
"We get lots of clients who want traditional cuts with a hard part and a comb-over, also known as a pompadour. That style will never go out of fashion. Designs shaved in the pompadour are also popular. If the client has a photo, there is a barber who can make that design happen," says Wes.
Another trending cut for men this year is the classic, short hairstyle called the crop top. This style features a shorter cut with a fade paired with a longer, textured top and fringe in the front. This fashion-forward style is favored by the younger set, providing versatility. It can be swept back for a more professional look or worn brushed forward and loose for a casual, hip vibe.
And hold onto your ponytail; the mullet is making a comeback! Still business in the front and party in the back but doing it with 2021 flair. Today's modern mullet is a more fashion-forward mashup of two different hairstyles–any hairstyles as long as the back is long and hangs down. It could be a pompadour and a long shag or a crop top with fringe and a permed mane with a fade.
Finding your hairstyle can take a few tries but, Wes says there are twelve stylists who are happy to work with you to find the style that suits you best.
