¡hola hp! Fostering a love for learning

How ¡hola hp! sparks a love for learning

At Hola HP, education goes beyond textbooks and exams—it's all about nurturing a genuine love for learning.

Recognized and respected in Park Cities educational circles, this dynamic approach merges personalized instruction with creative teaching techniques, revolutionizing students' engagement with their studies.

Whether tackling math, science, or language arts, Hola tutors instill curiosity, build healthy confidence, and create lasting academic growth with their students. Their commitment to nurturing each student’s unique strengths makes learning an invigorating journey rather than just another dreaded chore.

Hola HP founder Katherine Herron is a third-generation Highland Park native. She attended Bradfield, MIS, and is a 2001 HPHS graduate. “I live in University Park; my children attend HPISD schools,” she says. “My husband and I met teaching at Highland Park Middle School.”

After four years in the UTeach Program at the University of Texas at Austin, Herron taught for a year in Plano, then took a job in Highland Park teaching Spanish. It was during that time that she began coaching former students. As they transitioned from middle to high school, many requested her help as a tutor.

“I realized that many students didn’t need private one-on-one help; they just wanted to feel confident going into tests.”

Herron began working with small groups in her home. “I had over 100 students coming through my doors each week … the traffic was not ideal for my neighbors!”

She opened Hola in Snider Plaza in 2015. After outgrowing multiple spaces in the shopping center, she moved into the Hilltop building in August of 2021.

“Growing up in the Park Cities, understanding the schools, teaching in the district, and developing a relationship with so many amazing educators all contribute to our success story.”

Today, her small, community-focused, family-oriented tutoring company helps students find confidence and success in and out of the classroom.

“We work with students ages three through post-graduate to reinforce foundational skills, close content gaps, and extend learning into meaningful academic growth,” she says.

Hola offers pre-K classes, weekly groups to supplement classroom instruction, pop-up reviews for tests and quizzes, STAAR and AP exam preparation sessions, exam-cram reviews, ACT/SAT prep, back-to-school preparation, summer reading reviews, summer camps for elementary kids, private tutoring, and more.

“We regularly receive feedback that students’ ACT/SAT scores have increased, performance on standardized tests has significantly improved, and content understanding has advanced,” says Herron.

Each week, tutors plan lessons based on what students are learning in the classroom. Students review core concepts and apply their knowledge to practice problems, reinforcing their understanding of the content.

“Our greatest strengths include a team of highly educated, passionate educators who have a heart for nurturing and teaching,” she says, meeting students where they are, to foster academic success and a love for lifelong learning.

“We value the relationships we have built within this community, with students and their families, and have watched students grow and mature over the years. Many of them started at Hola as elementary students and are now driving, leading student organizations, or heading to college.”

She says Hola knows the HPISD curriculum and understands the intricacies of the school district, which gives unique insight into how to best serve their students. “We’ve expanded beyond the district to serve students in other school districts, private schools, and even colleges.”

“We value the district’s teachers; many of our tutors have worked there, and we honor their work by reinforcing classroom learning with consistent, high-quality support. We want students to feel comfortable when they walk into Hola and confident as they leave.”

She says the goal is to “provide highly tailored instruction that aligns with classroom standards, challenges students in rigorous and meaningful ways, and provides a safe place to ask clarifying questions.”

Hola tutors create lessons that are intentionally and thoughtfully scaffolded, anticipating common questions, complicated concepts, and gaps.

“We know what motivates students to learn: engaging instruction, encouragement, connection, and visible progress.”
