2025 Home Remodeling Trends

Discover 8 Inspiring Ideas To Transform Homes and Create Beautiful, Functional, Welcoming Spaces

With four decades of experience in the home remodeling industry, Liston Design Build team members have helped clients ideate and integrate a myriad of design/build decisions to meet changing needs and preferences over the years. In 2025, several exciting trends are emerging that focus on creating personalized, functional and welcoming spaces. These eight trends reflect the growing emphasis on comfort, sustainability and individuality, and are ones likely to shape more home remodeling for the rest of this year.

1. Arches And Archways

Arches are making a major comeback, bringing softness, playfulness and a timeless charm to home interiors. From doorways and windows to niches and millwork, this organic modern feature creates a timeless welcoming feel. “Arches help balance harsh lines, adding an architectural elegance that’s both classic and modern,” says Andrea Liston-Jones, director of design. Expect to see new interpretations of this classic shape in 2025 and beyond.

2. Fully Optimized Living Spaces

Living spaces continue to expand beyond the traditional living room setup and are leaning toward an all-inclusive open concept. Creating a fully optimized and centralized zone that incorporates more square footage while sitting adjacent to the kitchen adds to the overall flow of a home while incorporating features such as fireplaces, multiple seating areas, or dedicated space for games or intimate conversation.

3. Range Alcoves And Wood Paneled Appliances

Want to take a kitchen to the next level? Consider a range alcove, often recessed with an arched detail, adding an architectural focal point while creating a custom look. Conceal appliances with wood-paneled doors to help maintain a cohesive design aesthetic while blending seamlessly with cabinetry and moving away from cold stainless steel finishes.

4. Touch-Me Textures And Pattern Drenching

Maximalism is thriving in certain spaces with layers of bold textures and patterns, creating visual and tactile interest. Think grooved wall paneling, woven materials and plush fabrics such as boucle and velvet. “We’re seeing homeowners embrace designs that reflect their personalities and add depth to rooms like offices, bathrooms and living rooms,” Andrea shares. Embracing prints on drapery, furniture and rugs creates a vibrant space that feels inviting and truly unique.

5. Ceiling Treatments

Often called the “fifth wall,” ceilings are taking center stage with beams, coffered designs and applied moldings in intricate designs that add depth and elegance. These treatments not only enhance visual interest, but also complement the room’s design details. An interesting ceiling fully envelops spaces in warmth and charm, tying together the overall design of the entire room in a seamless way.

6. Natural Design Elements

Organic modern styles continue to grow in popularity to encourage a sense of calm and warmth. Soft lines, green hues and light wood flooring and furniture bring a breath of fresh air, even in the coldest of months. Incorporating earth-inspired tones adds the perfect touch to offer a sense of nature to any remodel. “Creating a more organic and natural foundation to a home’s design allows rooms to perfectly personalize accordingly, whether through color, textures, or other elements,” Andrea says.

7. Kitchens Packed With Personality

Kitchens are becoming unique expressions of style, incorporating bold colors, custom cabinetry and personalized touches such as curated art and heirlooms. “We’re moving away from cookie-cutter spaces, and kitchens are one of the best places in a home to add personalization,” Andrea notes. “Individuality is in, and it’s exciting to see homeowners truly want to make a space their own.” Custom cabinet finishes, creative tile designs and unique lighting are some key features adding character to kitchens.

8. Immersive Bathrooms

Wet rooms and spa-like retreats are transforming bathrooms into sensory escapes designed to enhance relaxation. A wet room combines a separate shower and tub into one contained space, offering a luxurious, open and modern design solution. Aromatherapy, steam showers and all-in-one wet zones are growing in popularity, even in smaller spaces. These designs maximize luxury and functionality, making bathrooms feel indulgent, serene, and perfectly suited to modern living.

Bring These Trends Home in 2025

These trends present exciting possibilities for homeowners to enhance their living spaces with both personality and everyday practicality. Andrea adds, “We’re so excited to be in the position of working so closely with our clients to craft innovative spaces that harmonize beauty, quality and comfort for their families. We can’t wait to see what this year brings for them and their spaces!”
