Three December Book-Picks

Staying in tonight? Consider checking out West Bloomfield Township Public Library’s December book recommendations.

Although I love celebrating the holidays with friends and family, there’s just something about a cold, December evening at home. Looking for a good book recommendation, I touched base with West Bloomfield Township Public Library’s staff, who shared which ones they’d recommend for all ages this month.

For the littles, Coordinator of Youth Services Jill Bickford suggested A Thousand White Butterflies by Jessica Betancourt-Perez and Karen Lynn Williams: “This picture book tells the touching and optimistic story of a young immigrant's first days in a new country. Beautiful illustrations add to the joy and simplicity of this heartfelt story.”

Young Adult Librarian Steve Ketcham mentioned Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. “This young adult title is a great December read because it involves romance at Christmastime in New York between two young book lovers,” he explained. “This story is filled with great characters, and it makes you think about what is important in the person you are looking for.”

In search of an adult read? David Sedaris’ A Carnival of Snackery is highly recommended by Coordinator of Adult Services Eric Schoenbaechler: “David Sedaris is great to read at any time, but his books are especially comforting during the winter. I have been reading his essays for over 20 years, so in many ways, he feels like a part of my family— a perfect friend for a chilly winter night!”
