This whole-home interior design and renovation in Greenwich, CT was created for a career-driven couple entering their next chapter—one child off to college and another soon to follow. With a newfound focus on working from home, the design was tailored to their evolving lifestyle. Though grand in scale, the newly purchased home initially felt cold and overly formal, lacking the warmth and personality that reflected its new owners. Our goal was to completely reimagine the residence into a joyful, family-friendly sanctuary—equally suited for entertaining, relaxing, and creating memories when their children return home.
The living room, traditionally reserved for special occasions, was transformed into a purposeful space for everyday use. An intimate game table offers a quiet moment for chess while seamlessly connecting to the main seating area. A hand-forged, contemporary chandelier serves as a sculptural focal point, casting a delicate, artful glow. Low-profile, light-colored furnishings further maximize daylight, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages connection and conversation.
For the entryway, the clients desired a grand first impression that captured their family’s essence. A large original painting in the stairwell set the tone for the home’s color palette and established an art-driven narrative carried throughout the interior design.
For the husband’s office, the goal was to create a highly functional space that reflected his bold, modern sensibility while honoring the home’s traditional architecture. The design was anchored by three original artworks—including two graffiti-inspired pieces: a lit graffiti painted mirror and a commissioned artwork featuring four hearts symbolizing each family member. His personality is further expressed through a hand-knotted designed area rug and impactful lighting. Supporting his frequent work-from-home schedule, the office functions as a high-tech workspace while also serving as an extension of the home’s entertaining areas for natural overflow. Inspired by his favorite hue, the wall colors saturate the space and set the mood for focus and productivity.
In the lower level, a multi-purpose destination equally invites teens and adults—while completely defying the typical basement aesthetic. The existing bar was redesigned with bistro shelving, stone countertop, marble backsplash mosaic wall, tailored lighting, and a rebuilt soffit with custom grillwork. A custom pool table with a furniture-quality finish includes a removable multifunctional top, converting seamlessly from a ping-pong table to a buffet or dining surface. Just out of sight includes a golf simulator and game/poker table. Original art and elevated finishes mirror the level of design found on the main floor, transforming an underutilized space into a vibrant entertainment destination perfect for sports viewing, games, and gatherings.
Anchored by the home’s striking stone facade, the outdoor space was designed for both relaxation and celebration across multiple zones. The bluestone patio serves as the central hub, flowing from dining and lounging to play. A sleek concrete dining table with teak chairs converts into a regulation-size ping-pong table, while a relaxed-height, custom 26-inch round table paired with lounge-height chairs offers an intimate family dining option. The outdoor kitchen and bar provide seating for six, and a nearby stone firepit—with teak armchairs and a hidden firewood nook—creates yet another cozy gathering spot.
Art became the defining layer that elevated the home from beautiful to extraordinary. The result is a warm, highly functional home—an inviting sanctuary supporting work, play, relaxation, and lasting family memories. To see more photos of this project, visit bethkrupainteriors.com
