Nashville-based musician and creative mastermind David Karns shares his story of perseverance, courage, and gratitude during the Covid shutdown.

Q: What happened when Covid halted your career?
David: It was as catastrophic for me as it was for the rest of the world. As the bassist for Brandon Lay and one of his two tour managers, I had to completely shift gears. One night, my incredible wife Morgan and I were listening to some of my previously recorded songs, which ultimately led to the release of my first two singles in 2020.

Q: Tell us more.
David: The first song ‘Is It Love’ puts a different spin on a breakup and focuses on the good that can come when you change your perspective.
The second song ‘Blind’ really speaks to the pandemic and chaos of this past year, and you’ll hear a lot of what we all went through together in 2020.

Q: You are also a gifted painter. Please share.
David: Morgan had always wanted paintings of our pets, so I took a stab at it and they turned out better than I had hoped. I now take custom orders and paint duplications of people’s pets in between my music and touring schedules.

Q: How will you feel being back out on the road?
David: The phrase ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone’ couldn’t hit any closer to home. I’ve been very fortunate, along with my hard work and stubbornness, to have made it through. Morgan has been a tremendous inspiration and I count my lucky stars. I think that anybody who sees me play a show in the future is going to feel pure gratitude beaming from me.
