A Cultural View of Christmas

The nativity village from world-famous artist Fontanini will be on display at the Tau Center

Dozens of unique nativity sets will be displayed at the Tau Center in Kirkwood, including an entire village from the world-famous Italian artist Fontanini.  “The expansive Fontanini village fills four shelves. The detail and the artistry gives you a sense of what a middle eastern village would have looked like during the time of Jesus’ birth,” said Sr. Connie Probst, Director of Mission Support for the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The annual display will feature nativity sets from around town and around the world. “We want to emphasize that diverse cultures have different ways of expressing the nativity scene, from grapevines to match sticks. Our annual nativity display is one way we can bring the real reason for the season into people’s lives and contribute to the amazing event that happened over two thousand years ago.”

The display is open Thursday and Friday, December 9th and 10th, from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, December 11th, and 12th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. The Tau Center is located on 335 S. Kirkwood Road behind PNC Bank.
