Exceeding Expectations

Scenic City Orthodontics' Culture for Changing Smiles

Since 2010, Scenic City Orthodontics has been changing lives by changing smiles.  As the practice expands, the key ingredient to its success is a positive culture.  Flooded with raving patient reviews, Scenic City Orthodontics boasts five-star ratings across all three of its locations.  We spoke with Dr. Tyler Prentice about what it is that sets his practice apart from others in the area.

How would you describe the culture at Scenic City Orthodontics?

Our thing is always exceeding expectations. Here, it is patients, people and smiles. It really is our team that does the incredible job.  Every year, we continue to grow and it is the great people that are a part of the office that work together in the shared vision–a dedication to watching people smile.

Why is it important to you to cultivate a positive work environment for your employees?

Happy employees lead to happy patients and families.  If we focus on our patients and they are happy, then that transforms them. Our patients and our team. That’s what it’s all about.

When you started Scenic City Orthodontics, what was your approach to maintaining a positive work environment?

We invest continually into each other and the team.  We are always learning and growing together.  In the office, Culture is the most powerful thing to have in order to maintain success. And of course, the golden rule still applies, if you focus on taking great care of people, the rest works out.  It really is as simple as that.

What are some of the ways you promote a positive culture?

Culture isn’t something you do once a year. It is something you do every day.  You need to maintain and focus on that so you don’t lose it. We start the day with fun “Minute to Win It” games because it is hard to transition from personal life to work. So, we review anything of interest to get our mind right for the day in order to be ready for our patients and families. We have Culture Court, our internal praise messaging system, which crowns a monthly and yearly Culture King or Queen as voted by their peers. We also connect outside of the office. The team is the successful piece to the positive culture here. We take care of people on their way in and out.  Everything is a part of the experience.

As the practice grows, how do you ensure you continue to build and implement your culture?

We set ourselves apart by providing personal experiences and individual care. We don’t have a lot of big changes–patients see the same familiar faces every time. The quality of the people and the systems already established maintain it. We manage through the same doctrines to maintain the same high-level quality.  In turn, people are invested in the long term, rather than the short.
