A Face Treat From Prim & Plush

Owner Sarah Tankiewicz shares her story and favorite beauty trends.

Though it was many months in the making, Birmingham beauty expert Sarah Tankiewicz opened the doors to Prim & Plush in the middle of a pandemic.

While it may seem an unlikely time to launch a new business, Sarah provided just what the community needed in a time of stress and uncertainty: a bit of warm and fuzzy self-care. She says, “The day after we opened, the second Michigan shutdown went into effect for nearly four months! Thank goodness salons were able to remain open. We provide a space that makes people feel good and are excited about, with services that make them feel their best.”

A long time beauty, health and wellness aficionado, Sarah worked as a Registered Nurse in medical aesthetics for a decade before embarking on her own business. She says, “The first treatment I performed was laser hair removal. I fell in love with what I consider to be must have beauty services like lashes and brows, so that was our starting point!”

The top-notch treatments at Prim & Plush are one part of the overall experience. The other key piece is the space itself. “We provide the best treatments around, hands down, but we wanted to level up our guests’ experience by adding lots of attention to detail.” Sarah explains, “During your visit you will enjoy a gorgeous space, a few sweet treats, a little inspiration and great music.”

From the insta-worthy, handmade pink flowered phone booth and pink neon signs to finishing touches like deliciously smelling seasonal candles, Prim & Plush has a modern, yet super comfortable vibe that will make you relax and enjoy.

Prim & Plush’s four experienced, licensed estheticians are skilled in the salon’s signature offerings: lash extensions, lash lifting, lash tinting, brow shaping, brow tinting and brow lamination. The salon’s new Skin Bar incorporates a signature facial and dermaplaning. Sarah is looking forward to bringing even more cutting edge beauty treatments to the Midwest like the Hydrojelly mask that has taken the West Coast by storm. The electrolyte-infused treatment delivers powerful skincare nutrients with ingredients that promote anti-aging and a hydrating glow.

We talked to Sarah about her favorite beauty trends and what she thinks will be hot looks for the holidays.

Birmingham Life: What are your current fave trends in beauty?

Sarah Tankiewicz: Low maintenance, high impact – anything that provides a natural look to subtly enhance your beauty. Our skin services include our love for incorporating holistic wellness into the beauty regimen. During our Prim & Plush Signature Facial our estheticians use gua sha, ice globes and crystals to promote lymphatic drainage for a more contoured jawline that will calm and eliminate redness while promoting additional healing. You’ll start your Signature Facial by drawing an affirmation card to set the intention during your facial. Treat yourself, inside and out!

BL: What are you seeing as the latest looks for the holiday season?

ST: Skincare and clean beauty on-the-go are the latest trends. The no makeup look with glowing skin are what’s in. You’ll be naturally camera ready throughout the holiday season with holiday lashes and brows. Our Ultimate Lash + Brow Transformation includes our Lash Lift + Tint and our Brow Shape + Tint + Lamination. This is our most popular combo and the best overall transformation. It's you ~ just way better resulting in longer, lifted lashes with extra dimension along with bolder & fluffier brows for up to eight weeks.

BL: What do you have in store for our community?

ST: We’ve onboarded our favorite skin services and treatment musts. We love partnering with local businesses for partnerships and community engagement. We’ve recently hosted pop-up events with The Barre Code and Fabrik. My personal favorite includes laser hair removal, just in time for the holidays! Stay tuned for so much more to come!
