A Fusion of Inclusion

Great Food, Bold Art, and Big Hearts Welcome You at Glenn’s Cafe

Sometimes, a lifelong dream and a desire to do good converge.  And that fusion can create something truly special: like Glenn’s Café, now open in Mableton Walk at 5015 Floyd Road.

Co-owners Jason and Patricia Walesh wanted to own a restaurant, and they also wanted to find a way to include Jason’s younger brother, Glenn Hutchinson, who has Down syndrome, in a meaningful and quality way.  So, they combined their hospitality experience, creativity, and commitment to inclusion to open Glenn’s Café.  The restaurant’s namesake is the heart of the establishment and serves as Guest Relations Specialist.  Guests can expect to be greeted with warm smiles, thumbs ups, and sincere kindness while enjoying an eclectic but uncomplicated menu.

Glenn’s Café specializes in well-considered food in a fast-casual environment.  This bright and vibrant restaurant features colorful murals and whimsical art, serving breakfast and lunch with dine-in or take-out options.

In addition to breakfast bagels ($3-5) and daily specials ($7+), the menu includes appetizers ($5-10) of in-house recipes such as hummus and olive spread, sandwiches ($10) served on a bagel with a side of warm black beans, and a bread pudding dessert ($4) available a la mode (+$1).  A signature item, the Million Dollar Chicken Salad, is available in a variety of ways including take-home family-sized portions.

For patrons with a curious palate, a bit of leisure time, and a civic-minded nature, Glenn’s Café will quickly become a destination.  “We want those who are in the Down syndrome community, or those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in general, to be proud that there is representation in their area,” says owner Jason Walesh.  “Hearing, ‘Wow, that was delicious, and I love the fact that they have people with special needs working there’ would be the ultimate review.”

So, what does Glenn think of having his own restaurant?

Without hesitation, “I love it!”

Thumbs up.
