A Heart for the Hills

Laura Elleby shares her passion for Blue Ridge, Georgia

Laura Elleby is humbled to have found her callings in both location and profession. Born and raised in Texas, Elleby spent time in Atlanta with her husband, both “working their tails off in the medical sales field” – but knowing, deep down, she wanted a more personable career. It was Elleby’s husband who encouraged her to take real estate courses, and, within weeks, she’d found her new vocational path. “Before becoming a Realtor, I envied people who enjoyed their job so much, it didn’t feel like work. But, now I am thrilled to say I am one of those people!” she beams.

In July 2012, the couple went on a mountain trip in Blue Ridge, Georgia and fell completely in love — thus finding another true calling.

“We spent our first weekend in Blue Ridge, and our hearts, minds and souls were captivated. We decided together that one day, we would live there,” she shares. “As years passed, we continued to visit and invest in the area and community. In 2018, with my soulmate and two little ones in tow, we uprooted and moved to Blue Ridge.”

Elleby is one of the founders and principal agents of E+E Compass, a real estate firm that has recently found an ideal space tucked into their mountain town. Previously a Presbyterian church and a family-owned Jiffy Lube, this “nostalgic” space, in Elleby’s words, “is filled with generational community memories.”

“The rebuilding process did not come without challenges,” she notes. “But with a beautiful work partner by my side and staying positive, together, we were able to create a space far more perfect than our dreams imagined.”

In addition to working in her thriving business and dedicating herself to being a wife and mother, Elleby is a yoga instructor. She teaches a class called Yoga Over Blue Ridge on Monday mornings, which she says sets the tone for the week. Intentional self care is a must, she insists — plus family and spirituality, if a person wants to truly thrive.

[My husband and I] make each other a priority,” she notes. “We carve out time for just the two of us to take short trips that we call our ‘rebooting time.’ At home, we wake up an hour and a half before the kids to do a sauna, cold plunge and bible study. We love the quiet mornings together to begin in a healthy headspace before the chaos comes down the stairs! Then, we like to regroup as a family in the evenings, visiting our farm together and spending time with the animals. Family dinner is a priority as well, to sit together and enjoy one another.”

Ellebe not only loves the town of Blue Ridge, she would heartily recommend it to anyone who wants a second home in the hills and is more than happy to lend her real estate knowledge and expertise.

“Blue Ridge has attracted a dynamic crowd of both full-time and part-time residents and visitors,” she says. “Located just 90 miles north of Atlanta, it is situated near the state lines of Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina, making it the quintessential mountain town. People from all over the United States have discovered Blue Ridge and fallen in love with its charm.”
