Undoubtedly, this has been a ‘ruff’ year. But there is still much to be grateful for, especially if you’re one of the many animals being cared for by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. The shelter, however, remains busier than ever and finding forever homes filled with love is always the goal for these animals in need. Ashley Schmitt, Corporate Relations Coordinator, shares some of the furry friends looking to make a home for the holidays. NAME: Camo
Camo, a 10-month-old male terrier mix came all the way from a shelter in Kentucky and then to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s shelter in order to find his forever home! He is a happy, sweet, lovable dog that would make a great addition to almost any home. He has plenty of energy to go on a nice walk, run or hike. He has played really nicely with other dogs, but because we don't know much about his past, we do still recommend he meet any potential "dog siblings" before going home with them. He may need some basic training skills once in a new home, but seems like a people pleaser and is treat motivated so training should be easy. When he first got here, he was immediately super friendly and snuggly, just wanting to jump up and get cuddled! He is a silly, goofy boy with lots of personality but his best qualities are how loving and loyal he is.
NAME: Llewella
Llewella, a 10-year-old female domestic shorthair, is a very pretty senior cat looking for her forever home. She's a pensive, sweet, sensitive lady who thrives in a calm quiet environment. When Llewella is comfortable she's loyal and very affectionate. She forms close bonds with people who take the time to get to know her. Her favorite activities include curling up on comfy fluffy beds, lounging on a cat tree while she watches the birds, and hanging out with people who love her. She can take some time to adjust to a new home and needs that right cat-savvy person who can be patient and understanding with her. Adopting a senior cat is a very rewarding experience. Even though Llewella isn't a young kitten anymore she still has so much more life to live and love to give. If you open your heart to her you'll gain a soulful best friend.
NAME: Honcho
Honcho, a 2.5-year-old male domestic shorthair, is a big handsome kitty looking for his forever home. Sadly he ended up at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton because his previous owner passed away. Honcho's name fits him perfectly because he seems like he's used to being the "head honcho" in a loving home. He's understandably restless in the shelter environment and wants more than anything to be part of a family again. When he feels comfortable Honcho loves snuggles and head nudges! He's smart, curious, confident, opinionated, and social. Honcho likes to keep active and do things like watching birds from a window and playing with catnip toys. His personality is the perfect balance of affectionate and independent. He loves to be around his people but is also okay to entertain himself from time to time. While Honcho enjoys quality time with humans, he doesn't seem to be a fan of being around other animals and may need to be the only furry family member. Honcho is incredibly good looking (and he knows it)! He’s a “manly” cat with a long athletic build, a sleek black coat, and big expressive green eyes. Honcho wants to be your best bud.
NAME: Rolo
Rolo is a handsome, adult male Lionhead mix rabbit that was found as a stray, so we don't know a lot about his history. He is currently spending his time in a wonderful foster home while he is waiting for his forever home to find him! He can be a little nervous when you first meet him, but he is very inquisitive and really likes attention once he feels comfortable. He loves to be high up so he can observe what is going on around him - particularly sitting on shoulders or on a deconstructed cat tower. He can be a little nervous around dogs, but doesn't seem to mind them too much. Rolo absolutely loves meal time, especially hay fresh out of the bag! This little cutie can't wait to find a forever family that can give him the love and attention he deserves.
