A Man Who Serves

A family man and a man for the people, Arvada Mayor Marc Williams shares his thoughts on the impact of COVID-19, and invites us to see the simple pleasures in life that make him a happy man.

Serving as Mayor since 2011, Marc knows and loves the Arvada community. No doubt the world is experiencing change, trauma, resiliency and love, and it is the hearts of the people that reaffirm Marc’s belief in the power of coming together: “I believe your actions helped reduce the death and severe illness numbers."

"I value the partnerships between our residents, our businesses, the faith based community, our non-profit organizations and our city team. Together, we are much stronger and will be able to weather this storm.”

Though these quarantine times have been challenging and have tested all of our patience, Marc reminds us that in the end we rise above, coming out more powerful, more creative, and more efficient.

Serving others is a priority for Marc- this has always been, and will always be, and the Arvada community mirrors that same pride in giving back and leaning on one another: “I have been heartwarmed to watch children walk by homes showcasing stuffed animals in their front windows, the colorful chalk art, the families going for bike rides or walks, and neighbors helping neighbors.” And in his own home, Marc cannot help but showcase Mrs. Williams as his own champion, “...because she is by far the best person to be quarantined with!” [aside from maybe Jimmy Buffet, he smirks].

Each morning, First Lady Luanne and her husband Marc take to the living room -lattes in hand- and enjoy the peace and serenity of being together; the stillness of the space, free from technology, allows them to recharge and let love fuel their day.

“A well hit golf shot, a mountain hike, riding our tandem, and exploring new places...” are some of the simple pleasures that bring Marc joy, but “...nothing beats sitting around our fire pit on a beautiful Arvada evening, roasting marshmallows, listening to music and each other.” A family man at his core, absolutely, and when the mood strikes, he absolutely indulges in his guilty pleasure: a multi-course, wine-paired dinner.

Be it adventuring, connecting with and caring for his community, reading, advising Trump to stop tweeting, or drinking his caramel latte, Arvada Mayor Marc Williams is a man of faith, hope, love, and integrity. “To be effective, you have to be credible. I try to be a man of my word.” He serves his family and his Colorado community proudly, and says how important it is “...to listen and to learn.”
