If you’ve ever driven past Spring Emissions on Spring Rd. and wondered what’s going on behind it, you’ve probably stumbled upon one of Smyrna’s favorite fall traditions: the Smyrna Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch.
What began as Jeff Carter’s clever way of avoiding mowing grass on an empty lot has grown into Metro Atlanta’s largest corn maze—planted and built right here in Smyrna.
“When my wife thought I was crazy, I knew it was a great idea,” Jeff says with a grin. That’s Jeff in a nutshell—fun, energetic, and just the kind of person who can turn a wild idea into something unforgettable for the community.
A Homegrown Tradition
Unlike most corn mazes that require a long drive to the countryside, this one is just minutes from home. Families can stop by after school, make it a Saturday outing, or turn it into a weekly fall tradition.
Along with the winding maze and pumpkin patch, visitors can dig into a giant corn pit, race rubber duckies, hop on a “Hey” ride, and even catch the big game on TV while the kids play for hours.
Jeff lights up when he talks about his favorite part—watching kids disappear into the maze or corn pit while parents relax and reconnect. “Several families came every weekend last year. It became their ‘thing,’” he recalls. That’s the heart of it: fall fun bringing people together.
Behind the Stalks
Don’t be fooled by Jeff’s laid-back personality—there’s plenty of hard work that goes into creating the maze. In year one, he hand-tossed 30,000 seeds (yes, by hand). “I was stunned how that tiny seed grows into a six-foot plant—I messed up,” he laughs.
This season, he went back to basics with carefully spaced seeds, and the results speak for themselves. “MAN, the corn is looking great!” Jeff says proudly. The result is a sprawling, picture-perfect maze made for laughter, selfies, and maybe even a few wrong turns along the way.
Pumpkins, Parties & Possibilities
Every pumpkin purchase includes free access to all the activities, making it an easy and affordable outing for families. And Jeff’s imagination doesn’t stop at pumpkins—this year he’s added something “super cool that you don’t want to miss.” His dream? “To have a wedding in the stalks,” he says with a grin.
But at the heart of it all, his goal remains simple: “I just want people to have some good ole Fall Fun.”
So, grab your flannel, rally the family, and head over to Smyrna’s own backyard for a fall adventure you won’t forget.
