A New Standard in Men's Grooming

Why luxury grooming is becoming less about indulgence, and more about confidence.

I tried something new recently.

I’m not one to get pampered. At 46, I can count on one hand the number of massages I’ve had—and every one was with my wife on vacation. Luxury has always felt reserved for resorts, not everyday life.

So when I heard Hammer & Nails was coming to Broomfield, I was curious. Is there really a market for elevated grooming designed for men? We already have plenty of places to get a haircut. Some even offer a drink. What could make this different?

As it turns out, quite a bit.

“We can get a haircut anywhere,” says Matt Sewell, who owns Hammer & Nails with his wife, Sarah. “Why not come somewhere you can enjoy a luxury experience and be treated like family? We want everyone to feel completely welcome and comfortable.”

That’s exactly what I found.

For my first visit, I booked the Milk & Honey Signature Duo. I’d never had professional hand or foot care, so I had no idea what to expect.

Matt greeted me by name and offered beer, wine, or a non-alcoholic drink. I chose a Malbec and settled into the lounge.

“Men don’t have many places where they can be seen, known, and receive exceptional personalized care,” Matt said. “Creating a place where they can relax, connect, and become part of a community—that’s what inspired us to bring Hammer & Nails to Broomfield.”

A few minutes later, Britney led me to the hand and foot lounge. Leather chairs, custom artwork, warm lighting, and televisions created something between an upscale theater and a polished man cave. It felt masculine, calm, and inviting.

Britney explained the service, offered headphones and a remote, and prepared the foot soak. I skipped the television and started a conversation. She answered my questions, shared at-home care tips, and made what could have felt awkward seem natural.

The Milk & Honey Signature Duo includes a coconut milk and honey soak, sugar scrub, massage, callus treatment, nail care, paraffin therapy, and hot towels. It wasn’t simply relaxing—it was restorative.

About halfway through, Matt stopped by to check on me and offer a refill on my wine. We talked about how attitudes toward men’s grooming have changed.

“For a long time, men viewed self-care as something that wasn’t masculine,” he said. “That’s changing. More men are realizing that taking care of themselves isn’t vanity—it’s part of living well.”

According to H&N member Travis Williams, “Masculinity and good grooming go hand in hand. Every inch of this place emphasizes both, with a touch of class. I have been looking for something like this for a long time.”

The memberships felt equally intentional. Classic offers a better, less-rushed haircut. Signature adds time to relax. LUXE creates a monthly reset. Different men can choose what self-care looks like for them.

Hammer & Nails goes beyond haircuts, beard trims, and straight-razor shaves. Skin care, hand and foot services, and a hospitality-first approach allow men to be cared for from head to toe. But the real difference isn’t the service menu. It’s how the experience makes you feel.

“Your hands and feet are your tools,” Matt told me. “You need to take care of them. The Hammer & Nails experience begins and ends with hospitality. We don’t just want you leaving looking better—we want you relaxed, refreshed, and ready to take on life with confidence.”

Confidence.

That word stayed with me. This wasn’t only about grooming. It was about giving men permission to slow down, recharge, and care for themselves without feeling like they had to explain it.

“Men walk in for the first time and are surprised a place like this exists,” Sarah says. “Giving them a safe space to be themselves and care for themselves has a real impact on their mental well-being.”

My visit ended with a warm paraffin wax treatment. It felt unexpectedly luxurious, but by then, luxury no longer seemed like the point.

The point was intention.

A lot of men spend more time maintaining their cars or lawns than themselves. Hammer & Nails is changing that by making elevated men’s care feel natural, welcoming, and worthwhile.

And while I’m still hesitant to say I got a “mani-pedi,” I can tell you this: My experience at H&N was fantastic, and my hands and feet have never felt better.

Maybe taking care of yourself isn’t an indulgence after all.

Maybe it’s simply the new standard.
