When Matt Zimmerman became frustrated with the current approach to family healthcare, he knew there had to be a better way to serve families. “As a family practice physician in a large medical system, I had a patient panel of over 4,000 people. The practice was in the business of seeing as many patients as possible in a day,” stated Matt. That was not how he wanted to practice medicine. “I love talking with people and understanding their behaviors so that I can help them. And doing that in 10 – 15 minutes is really hard.”
Matt moved his beautiful wife and three daughters to Kirkwood and opened Sage Family Practice, a direct primary care/patient care model. “My office offers affordability, accessibility, and complete personal family health care,” stated Matt. “It’s kind of like the concierge medicine model, except our model is a membership model rather than an insurance model.” Memberships cost $65 per month for adults and $35 per month for kids. “If you think of gym memberships and coffee subscriptions, we do the same thing with primary care,” said Matt. “Members pay for the same full scope of care they expect from a typical family practice physician,” Matt said that he will cap his patient profile at 350 families. “My patient panel is everyone and anyone,” stated Matt. Sage Family Practice members can easily access Matt through virtual appointments, Facetime phone calls, texts, emails, and on his cell phone. In-person appointments are available on the same day or the next day. “I spend 30 to 60 minutes with every patient,” said Matt. “This changes the way patients communicate with their healthcare provider. We encourage regular communication. It’s nice to flip that script. It’s good to talk to a doctor when you are well.”
Sage Family Practice is located on 111 Prospect Avenue #202A in Kirkwood.
