Soft sand. Lapping waves. An iconic resort.

Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa in Montauk, New York, is the only luxury year-round resort in the posh Hamptons situated directly on the beach. The views from the resort and 2,000-foot-long private beach are incredible, and its charm, elegance, and experiences make it a must-visit.

Then & Now

Built in 1926 by Montauk local Maude Gurney, the locale debuted with just 20 rooms and the name Gurney’s Inn. Today, it has 158 rooms, suites, and beachfront cottages, a private Beach Club and cabanas, an indoor seawater-fed pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and amenities such as the recently renovated, 30,000-square-foot Gurney’s Seawater Spa.

Gurney’s also added another iconic property to its portfolio—Scottsdale’s Sanctuary Camelback Mountain.

The Rooms

The spaces here were designed to capture the stunning water views, so all rooms have either a partial ocean view, ocean view, or are oceanfront with direct beach access so that you can step out and have your toes in the sand immediately.

The interiors are welcoming, with soothing colors and thoughtful touches, and the cottages include a kitchen or kitchenette, fireplace, and terrace. The three-bedroom cottage has a lawn.

The Food

There are several on-property eateries, from the casual lounge around the resort’s large firepit to the more traditional sit-down Tillie’s—an American kitchen offering seasonal classics—and Scarpetta Beach restaurants. Scarpetta Beach has a casual yet upscale feel, and offers Italian classics and fresh seafood in a nautical-inspired setting with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Spa

A stay at Gurney’s should include a visit to its spa. In addition to a range of wellness treatments, 50-minute BathHouse experiences—which include thermal pools and a seawater pool circuit, a eucalyptus steam room, and more—are available to adult resort guests.

The Events

There's plenty to do here, from parties to fitness events to pop-ups. This past summer, luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana held the first-ever beachfront takeover in the U.S. at the resort, with a pop-up shop and experiences.
