A Parisian Tradition

Waiters Race for The Giving Kitchen

The third annual Waiters’ Race Atlanta, hosted by The Industry Fund, Le Bilboquet Atlanta and The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, will be held on July 14 at 5:00 pm at Center Plaza at The Shops. This year’s race will be the culmination of an afternoon Bastille Day celebration that will include a summer block party and center-wide attractions from 12:00-6:00 pm.

This year’s event will include celebrity chefs from Atlanta on the judges’ panel and give them a chance to take an active role in this unique industry event. The race celebrates the excellence, dedication and discipline of the more than 230,000 food preparers and servers who work in the metro Atlanta restaurant industry and will benefit The Giving Kitchen (TGK).

The Waiters’ Race Atlanta offers a Southern version of the 100-year-old Parisian tradition. Participants will navigate through various obstacles with a loaded server’s tray in one hand. After finishing the route, competing waiters and waitresses will open and pour a split of champagne. Contestants will be evaluated on speed, service and style by a group of well-known Atlanta chefs including James Beard Award Winner and Executive Chef, Philippe Haddad.

The winner of the race will receive a round-trip ticket to Paris for two and a traveling trophy to be housed in their restaurant for the next 12 months.

Before and after the race, The Shops Buckhead Atlanta will host a free summer block party at center plaza that will include live entertainment, outdoor cocktail bars, food tasting stations, a flower cart, children’s games and a bocce court. In addition, The Shops Buckhead Atlanta retailers will be offering exclusive experiences, amenities and promotions during the event.
