When we received entries for our Kids & Pets photo contest featuring two very special members of Celina ISD, we knew they deserved a spotlight of their own. While Frankie and Roo may not teach math or reading, these four-legged staff members provide something just as important: comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love.
Comfort dogs have become an invaluable part of many schools, helping students navigate everything from first-day jitters to difficult moments. Their calm presence can ease anxiety, encourage positive social interactions, and simply brighten an ordinary school day. At Celina ISD, Frankie and Roo do all of that and more.
At O'Dell Elementary, Frankie, a one-year-old Goldendoodle, has quickly become a favorite among students and staff. Always ready with a wagging tail and a friendly greeting, Frankie has a knack for making people smile. Whether she's participating in school spirit dress-up days or offering quiet companionship to a student who needs a little extra encouragement, Frankie reminds everyone that kindness can come with four paws and floppy ears.
Across town at Martin Elementary, Roo has earned a reputation as one of the school's happiest faces. Imagine fifty excited kindergarteners running toward you, shouting your name at the top of their lungs. Most of us might turn and run, but not Roo. Her tail would be wagging the entire time. Every day, she welcomes students with enthusiasm, helping create an environment where children feel loved, safe, and connected. Her gentle presence reassures students that no matter what kind of day they're having, they're never alone.
While Frankie and Roo may have different personalities, they share the same important mission: making school a place where students feel supported and cared for. Sometimes that means sitting quietly beside a child who's having a hard day. Other times it means celebrating school spirit, greeting students in the hallway, or happily accepting a few extra belly rubs.
It's no wonder that when Frankie and Roo showed up in our dog contest, we knew they deserved more than just a photo. They deserved to be celebrated for the joy, comfort, and countless smiles they bring to Celina ISD every single day.
