A Personal Touch in the Overwhelming Field of Medicare

In the world of insurance, where complex terms and bureaucratic processes often leave people feeling overwhelmed, Springli Sage, owner of Sage Insurance Solutions stands out with her personalized approach and dedication to client education.

Springli prefers meeting clients face-to-face and travels throughout the state to meet with them. Her unique methods have made her a trusted advisor, particularly in the realm of Medicare programs.

Sage has been in the insurance industry since 1997. Her journey began with a liberal arts degree and a temporary position at a national insurance agency.

"I realized I understood the customer side of the business," she says. "Revenue and profit and loss were important, but what really drove me was the desire to help people understand what insurance they had and why they needed it."

Sage's empathetic approach is crucial when dealing with Medicare, a subject that often makes people nervous. Licensed in 2012, she focuses on meeting clients where they are most comfortable and visually demonstrating the products available to them.

"I prefer to avoid the phone and meet people in person," she notes. "Medicare can be overwhelming, and my goal is to make it easier to understand by showing clients their options directly."

Medicare is a significant focus for Sage Insurance, although it also handles health and life insurance policies as well. Sage highlights the importance of being well-versed in the latest changes in this heavily regulated field.

"If you're not up on the latest changes, it can be overwhelming," she explains. "I try to slow down the process for people approaching 65 when Medicare kicks in. There are a lot of variables, and starting with a conversation helps create a sense of awareness."

Sage's approach to Medicare in Connecticut, a guaranteed issue state, provides clients with a unique advantage.

"Here, people can change what they are doing without being penalized, so there are more choices," she says. “This flexibility is essential, especially with upcoming changes like the $2,000 annual cap on prescriptions.”

A testament to her effectiveness, Sage recalls a significant success story: "I had a customer who couldn't navigate AccessHealth and was paying $2,000 per month. Now, they're down to $200 after just a few meetings." This example underscores the importance of having a knowledgeable advisor and building trust and credibility through consistent support, she says.

"Just because someone is not a paid client doesn't mean they don't need help," she adds, emphasizing her commitment to assisting everyone who seeks her guidance.

Sage builds lasting relationships with her clients and her personal approach and ability to put people at ease sets her apart in a field often perceived as impersonal.

"Everyone I talk to is worried, but I make them comfortable by following the rules and not being in it just for the money."

An average of 10,000 baby boomers age into Medicare every day and very few of them are comfortable navigating the enrollment process, she says.

"There are more people that need help than agents to service their needs."

Her personal touch and presence in her clients' lives, as well as her love of her work, she adds, makes her a successful agent.

"I make it a practice to help everyone.”
