A coastal pool house built for laughter and connection

JuJu Taylor has spent the last few years relearning how to show up boldly, in her closet, her business, and her life. That same intentionality shows up in her backyard too.

"Chris and I have always said that we want to be the house that our kids and their friends want to hang out in," JuJu says. With teenagers who love filling the pool with friends, she and her husband set out to create more than a backyard, they wanted a gathering place, right in their own neighborhood. "We love filling our home with laughter and fun. All are welcome in the Taylor house and we always want people to feel at ease."

That mission shaped every decision in the couple's new pool house lounge, a spot designed for relaxing, watching a movie, or just hanging out after a swim. It's become the kind of space friends and neighbors gravitate toward, exactly the point.

Inside the Taylor home, color is everywhere, but outside tells a different story. "The interior of our home is a rainbow of colors, and I wanted our pool house to feel more coastal and relaxing," JuJu says. She started with black and white striped Sunbrella curtains set against the green of the house, then built out a more neutral coastal palette with pops of green, blue, and yellow, a nod to the Lowcountry setting just beyond her back door.

Durability mattered just as much as style. Charleston's salt air and sun are unforgiving on outdoor furniture, so JuJu partnered with local outdoor specialists Auden & Avery to source pieces that could handle the elements without sacrificing look. "I love the look of rattan and we definitely wanted to make sure that we put durable outdoor furniture in the pool house," she says. Auden & Avery's wide selection of furniture, pillows, plants, and accessories meant she could fill the entire space from one local source, an easy win for a busy household.

As evening falls, string lights strung across the ceiling bring the whole space to life. "It feels cozy, intimate, and inviting," JuJu says of the warm glow.

It's a fitting extension of the woman behind Julianne Taylor Style and JuJu Loves, someone who has spent years learning that showing up for yourself, and for the people you love, doesn't require permission. Her pool house lounge doesn't chase trends any more than her wardrobe does. It's simply designed for exactly the life she wants to live right here in Mount Pleasant, full of laughter, color in all the right places, and people who feel completely at home.
