A Power Lip Never Goes Out of Style

Holiday Tips From Beauty Collective Salon

Cara Hidding’s Beauty Collective has been making people beautiful for a decade. An accomplished colorist and stylist, Cara has been recognized in Allure Magazine (Top Professional in Detroit) and Style Magazine (Best Colorist in Detroit).

With two salons in Birmingham and a new location in Utica, Cara and her team can cover all your glam squad needs: hair cut and color, the perfect mani/pedi, brow shaping and the makeup look for a special event…or your everyday.

Monica Jadan has been a stylist for 25 years. She says, "I knew from a very young age (about 7) that I wanted to do hair and makeup.”  As one of the very talented stylists at Beauty Collective, we asked Monica to share some current tips and trends to get us into that holiday hair and makeup state of mind.

Birmingham Life: Is there a service that is your particular specialty?

Monica Jadan: Hairstyling and makeup. I love tying them together for the total look.

BL: What are some of your fave current trends in beauty?

MJ: I'm loving the clean skin/face look. Natural is always my favorite because it showcases everyone’s individual beauty. I'm also a fan of the power lip in any color!

BL: What are you seeing as the latest looks for the holiday season?

MJ: Plum and burgundy lip shades will be gorgeous this holiday season. And classic red never goes out of style. Also a pop of metallic shadow or liner in a jewel tone or the classic gold and silver will be beautiful this season.

Holidays are the perfect excuse to choose the fun colors and metallics we may skip over in our pallets for everyday wear.

BL: Is there anyone (a celebrity, a famous makeup artist, etc.) who you are particularly inspired by?

MJ: From a young age I was obsessed with MTV...back when they played music videos all day. I fell in love with the storytelling that clothing, hair and makeup could give. I was inspired by the way artists could drastically change their appearance by different makeup and hair styling!

Prince will forever be my inspiration. A little rock ‘n’ roll edge goes a long way!

Beauty Collective hair stylist Lexy Alessandrini also showcased some holiday hair tips for us.

Birmingham Life: What are some of your current favorite hair trends?

Lexy Alessandrini: I love blended blondes, adding extensions for fullness and length and loose, fun ponytails.

BL: We’re thinking ahead to holiday parties. What are some festive things we can do to amp up our look?

LA: Create lots of texture and make it fun by adding tinsel. Accessorize with printed headbands or festive clips.

My model has 2 rows of Bellami hand tied extensions to add fullness to her already long hair. Her warm balayage compliments her green eyes and olive skin.
