“We have a really calming, relaxing environment and our clients really enjoy that space and atmosphere,” Leah says.
It reflects the kind of progressive approach to the business of beauty and style that Leah and her colleagues seek to promote at Elle J Beauty Lounge, which opened at 100 Sycamore St., in 2021.
Under its business model, stylists from different disciplines and professional backgrounds work together in a collaborative environment to provide clients with a highly individualized experience.
Leah, a hairstylist and makeup artist who previously worked in the entertainment business in Los Angeles, leases out both booth and suite spaces within the salon to other professionals.
Amber Torres, who runs her business Alt Hair within Elle J Beauty Lounge, has been in the industry for 10 years. She has a passion for enhancing natural beauty and texture by adjusting the color tones and shape of hair with her skills as a curl specialist and balayage artist. She is a talented makeup artist and a partner in the bridal hair and makeup business with Leah.
“This is a progressive way that styling salons are now operating their businesses. It allows all of the professionals who work within one location to collaborate and provide a one-stop shop experience for all of our clients. While we’re all supportive of one another, we can also all make our own schedules and business decisions that best meets the needs of our clients.”
Elle J Beauty, she adds, prides itself on its progressive beauty and styling options and services, including a highly personalized hair coloring program, which includes customized balayage.
“Each person who comes in isn’t getting a cookie cutter cut and color. We work with you on what you want for your look and aesthetic.”
Elle J Beauty also provides personal prom and bridal beauty styling and will travel to brides-to-be venues and homes for makeup and hair styling. The salon offers the Go and Glow brand of natural spray tanning.
