“When people walk in the door, it’s almost like a weight is lifted.” For Rising Moon Minerals owner Jaime Osbahr, creating a crystal shop was never just about selling them. It began as something that brought her comfort during challenging moments.
In just a year and a half, her Riverton store has become a place where others can feel that same sense of safety and ease.
Jaime’s introduction to crystals came in December 2022 while her family prepared for her daughter’s major jaw surgery. Before the procedure, they were in Las Vegas for her daughter’s cheer competition. While looking for small stocking stuffers, Jaime picked up what would become her first crystal. She didn’t fully know why it stood out to her, but during that difficult time, she found herself drawn to it. It became a small source of strength and something she could hold onto when everything felt heavy.
As she continued to learn about crystals, Jaime started collecting them and eventually began selling them at local markets. She loved the conversations she had with shoppers and the moments of connection that happened naturally. Over time, she realized she wanted a permanent space, a place where people could slow down, breathe, and maybe discover what they needed in the moment.
That vision became clearer on Christmas Eve, a family tradition of dinner and a movie. While walking through Mountain View Village, Jaime spotted a small glass pop-up building. “I stopped and said, ‘That would be the perfect crystal shop.’” Six months later, Rising Moon Minerals opened its doors.
Running a retail business has brought its challenges, Jaime says, but her “why” has stayed the same. “The most rewarding part is connecting with people, connecting with the community, and having an opportunity to share my knowledge and my products with people,” she says.
One moment in particular reminded her of why she started. On a rushed morning, she slipped an Apache tear crystal into her pocket without thinking much of it. Later that day, a first-time customer came in, sharing that the crystal was exactly what she was looking for. Jaime immediately remembered the crystal in her pocket and gifted it to her. Later, she learned how meaningful that small gesture had been for the customer and her family. “To be involved in something like that is powerful for me,” Jaime says.
She is also committed to honoring the earth. Jaime is intentional about where her crystals come from, carefully vetting each vendor to ensure ethical sourcing that respects both people and the planet. Jaime hopes her shop’s environment reflects the care she has for the world, both for her local community and at large.
“As you walk in,” Jaime says, “the point is to have you feel safe.” For her, the shop is more than a place to buy crystals. It is a space to breathe, reset, reconnect, and hopefully leave feeling rejuvenated.
