Your Summer Hunger Campaign is going on now. Why is it so important?
When school ends, hunger begins for many children in our community. In Kendall County, nearly one-in-five children are food insecure during the summer months. Schools provide up to two meals a day for many children during the school year. Additionally, during the summer, families often face higher grocery costs with kids home all day, and accessing a food pantry can be a challenge. These are local children, right here in Boerne and the surrounding areas, who lose access to school breakfast and lunch programs over the break.
How many meals do you hope to deliver?
Our goal is to provide 35,000 kid-friendly meals this summer. That equals approximately 5,000 bags, each containing seven easy-to-prepare and nutritious meals. These will provide food for children who would otherwise go without.
What is the heart behind this summer effort?
We believe poverty alleviation is about more than material things—it’s about experiencing the love of Christ, dignity, community, and long-term transformation. This campaign is an extension of our year-round efforts to walk alongside people who need basic resources, with a particular focus on addressing the food insecurity faced by our community’s children.
How can people help?
Everyone is invited to pick up, fill up, and drop off one or more Summer Hunger Bags at our facility in Boerne. Group drives are welcome, and we’re happy to provide bags in bulk. Each bag contains a shopping list and a card for you to sign and decorate for the family who will receive your bag. Of course, people can always donate online or find our Amazon wish list on our website!
