When the homeowners discovered their home in the community of Sun Lakes, they immediately recognized its potential. While the layout and location were ideal, the finishes were dated and ready for thoughtful updating. Rather than seeing limitations, the homeowners were drawn to the opportunity to make the home entirely their own. They partnered with Whyte House Design (WhyteHouse.co) to transform the space into both a peaceful retreat and a welcoming place for gathering with family.
The renovation began with a full reset. Dated flooring was removed throughout the home, along with old cabinetry and heavy fireplaces that no longer reflected the homeowners’ lifestyle. This clean slate allowed the design to unfold intentionally, creating a warm and cohesive aesthetic that flows seamlessly from room to room.
A beautiful mid-tone hardwood now runs throughout the home, grounding each space and creating a sense of continuity. In the kitchen and entertaining areas, custom walnut cabinetry is paired with painted black cabinets and natural stone countertops, striking a balance between warmth and contrast. Architectural features were reimagined to feel sculptural and inviting. A Roman clay hood introduces texture and softness in the kitchen, while a matching Roman clay fireplace creates a complementary focal point in the living area.
Beyond aesthetics, functionality was carefully considered at every step of the renovation. Storage solutions were thoughtfully integrated to support everyday living while maintaining a clean and uncluttered look. Cabinetry layouts were customized to maximize efficiency, and durable materials were selected to ensure longevity without sacrificing style. Every design choice was guided by how the homeowners wanted to experience their space, from quiet mornings at home to evenings spent entertaining loved ones.
Entertaining was central to the homeowners’ vision, and a custom bar area quickly became one of the home’s most inviting spaces. Glass tile adds subtle shimmer and depth, while floating shelves keep the area light and open. A waterfall island anchors the bar and naturally draws guests in, creating a space that encourages connection, conversation, and celebration.
Lighting also played a key role in shaping the overall atmosphere of the home. Layered lighting was used throughout to create warmth and flexibility, allowing each space to transition easily from day to night. Subtle accent lighting highlights architectural features and material textures, while statement fixtures add personality and visual interest. Together, these elements help create a home that feels inviting at all hours and supports both relaxed living and lively gatherings.
Each bathroom received a complete transformation, continuing the thoughtful design story throughout the home. The primary suite was reimagined as a calming retreat with neutral flooring, fluted tile on an accent wall, and marble tile accents that lend a quiet sense of luxury.
Just as important was creating spaces that felt welcoming for the entire family. With grandchildren often visiting, the upstairs bathroom was designed with a playful touch. Green picket tile brings personality and color, while modern lighting adds a fresh and contemporary feel, creating a space that is both fun and functional.
This Sun Lakes renovation reflects Whyte House Design’s belief that a home should be both beautiful and deeply livable. By blending timeless materials, thoughtful contrasts, and personal details, the result is a home that feels like a true sanctuary, designed for connection, comfort, and the memories still to come.
