There is a unique kind of magic that happens when people gather around a shared table, sparking conversation and bridging communities. That exact spirit of connection lies at the heart of Sip & Savor, a vibrant culinary dine-around and grand festival in the Salt Lake Valley, close enough for a weekend trip from Idaho, designed to celebrate neighborhood flavors while uplifting the local hospitality ecosystem.
For Julie Janke, Publisher of Millcreek City Lifestyle, bringing Sip & Savor to life stems from a deep-rooted personal tradition. Years ago, while working with the Salt Lake City Downtown Alliance, Julie helped launch early dine-around concepts that transformed how residents discovered local dining spots, and felt a strong pull to revive and elevate the tradition.
"Food is the universal language of community," says Julie Janke. "Years ago with the Downtown Alliance, I saw how a dine-around could spark genuine connections between neighbors and local kitchens. Bringing this vision back was about recreating that spark; giving people an authentic invitation to slow down, explore new flavors, and celebrate the incredible artisans who nourish our city every day."
This year's Sip & Savor features more than 38 outstanding local establishments in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah, ranging from cozy neighborhood breweries and family-owned bistros to innovation-driven and James Beard-nominated culinary hubs. For Idaho travelers, it's a rare chance to explore an entire city's food scene at once, one dinner, one neighborhood, one discovery at a time.
The entire initiative culminates in a grand finale festival on October 11, hosted at the iconic Log Haven nestled in Millcreek Canyon. Surrounded by autumn foliage and mountain air, attendees will gather for an unforgettable evening of chef tasting stations, curated pours, and live entertainment, worth building a weekend around.
Yet beyond the exceptional cuisine and scenic venue, Sip & Savor carries a mission centered on giving back. In partnership with WasteLess Solutions and The Christmas Box International, the event ensures surplus food is repurposed to serve neighbors experiencing food insecurity and to provide shelter and resources for abused children.
"When we set out to build Sip & Savor, we wanted it to be so much more than a food festival," shares Carlos Toledo, Publication Director. "It's a heart-driven movement. Supporting local businesses is essential, but doing so while actively giving back to our community ensures that every bite enjoyed makes a real, lasting impact."
If a weekend in the mountains sounds appealing this October, Sip & Savor gives Idaho travelers a reason to go: a full weekend of discovery, one plate at a time, ending in a canyon full of autumn color. The grand festival happens October 11 at Log Haven. Details and tickets are at sipandsavormillcreek.com.
