Light Layers, Big Impact

When it comes to dressing for winter in warm climates like Houston, Stacey Bendet, founder, CEO, and Creative Director of Alice + Olivia, says the secret is all about balance. “Even when it’s warm outside, you walk into a restaurant or office and it’s freezing,” she says. Her solution is lightweight layers. Bendet suggests pairing mini jackets or blazers with lace or knit details. “They let you feel covered without overheating,” she says, also noting that these pieces transition easily from day to night.

Top Picks for the Season

This season, Bendet is inspired by rich, romantic tones and textures. “It’s Bordeaux season,” she says. Her top picks, all available at the brand’s River Oaks District boutique, include the Joanne Sweater in Bordeaux, lace slip tanks for layering under tailored pieces, and chic trousers to replace denim. “We’ve been in such a denim moment, but it’s the year of the trouser comeback." Bendet encourages mixing these pieces for a polished, modern feel that’s still easy to wear.

Layering Without the Bulk

In Houston’s mild winters, layering is more about versatility than insulation. “Update your wardrobe with the perfect trouser, a hint of lace, and a lightweight jacket,” Bendet says. Look for jackets in neutral tones or subtle shimmer that can top off jeans or dresses. “It’s about layering for your night out without feeling overly heavy or wintery.” Finish the look with tall boots or a playful bow bag for a touch of fashionable whimsy.

“In warm places like Houston, it’s all about layering smart—lightweight jackets, lace details, and rich colors that let you look chic without feeling overheated,” says Stacey Bendet.
