In these winter months, there is nothing better than a warming broth. Bone broth has long been used as a remedy against the common cold, but can also help the joints, heal the gut, and more.
Ingredients:
- 4 lbs of beef bones
- 2 onions quartered with the skin left on
- 2 carrots, thickly sliced
- 2 celery sticks, thickly sliced
- 1 turnip, diced
- 2 bay leaves
- rosemary
- sage
- 6 pints of water
- 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
Directions:
1. Place the bones into a large saucepan and heat gently for 10 minutes.
2. Add the vegetables for another 10 minutes.
3. Add the herbs, salt and black pepper.
4. Pour in the water and bring slowly to a boil. Skimming off any foam from the surface. Simmer gently for 4-5 hours.
5. Strain through a large sieve and allow to chill in the fridge overnight. Skim off any fat the next day and eat within three days or keep in the freezer.
