For some people, navigating their financial health can be taxing.

“It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the responsibilities that come with finances and tax preparation,” explains Terri Almacy, president of Almacy & Company CPAs, P.A.

Almacy & Company, a progressive firm of certified public accountants, has been guiding clients in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metro areas for over 30 years. Founded in Bethesda in 1978 by John Almacy, Terri’s late husband, the firm continues to serve its clients, with some families spanning multiple generations.

Roots That Run Deep

“We’ve worked with some of our clients since the very beginning,” Terri says. “Now, we’re even helping their children and grandchildren. It's a legacy we’re proud of.”

Originally from Northern Virginia, Terri discovered her love for accounting while studying at George Mason University. “I started as a business major back when women weren’t often encouraged in this field,” she shares. “I took a few accounting classes, found my calling, and switched career paths.” Terri became a Certified Public Accountant in 1982, joining Almacy & Company in 1993.

In 2000, Terri and John tied the knot and set their sights on Frederick, Maryland, eventually moving the firm to the area in 2014. “Since we lived in Frederick, moving the business closer made sense. We love being part of this community,” she says. The company set down roots in downtown Frederick at 50 Citizen’s Way in 2020. “We knew we’d love it here, parking garage and all!” Terri adds with a smile.

A Family Affair with Financial Flair

The close-knit, family-driven environment at Almacy & Company extends to its staff. Terri’s son, Tom Reinhardt and her son-in-law, Tom Davies, both work full-time, while her daughter, Trish, joins part-time. Deanna Nixon, a five-year veteran with the firm and Tom Davies are both CPAs, while Tom Reinhardt is working toward becoming an Enrolled Agent.

As for family quirks, one grandchild was even born on Tax Day! “It’s a fitting coincidence for our family business,” Terri laughs. This family-forward approach extends to clients, as well. “We care about our clients and strive to be responsive and accessible to them,” she says. “That’s what sets us apart.”

Tax Tips from the Top

A strong advocate for year-round planning, Terri is quick to debunk the myth that tax season only happens once a year. “Most people think tax season runs from January to April 15,” she says. “But really, financial planning should be a year-long activity. This way, there’s no frantic scramble in April.”

And while some may consider online tax software, Terri encourages working with a CPA to get a personalized approach. “Penalties can add up fast if you miss something. We’re here to catch those mistakes before they become costly.”

Nurturing Financial Health – And Confidence

Almacy & Company strives to do more than just crunch numbers. “Our role goes beyond filing returns,” Terri says. “We educate clients on managing their financial health, guiding them in buying and selling businesses, navigating trusts and building confidence in their financial decisions.”

Terri’s dedication to her clients often means late nights and busy weekends, but for her, the effort is worth it. “The demand in this business is high and we take pride in being there for our clients, every step of the way.”

Growing Financial Roots

Terri envisions a bright future for Almacy & Company, with growth as a central goal. The firm’s logo – a sapling with deep roots – reflects their commitment to fostering growth for clients’ financial assets. “In order to grow financially, you need a strong foundation,” Terri says. “Think of your tax return as part of that root system, supporting financial growth over time.”

With each client, Almacy & Company plants the seeds of financial stability and nurtures them to grow. “Our aim is to help people build wealth over time,” Terri says. “Just like a tree, it starts with strong roots.” AlmacyCPA.com
