American Chop Suey

A familiy favorite and winter treat

This is a comforting, winter, family dinner, and it's easy to prepare extra for multiple meals. 

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 14 ounces diced tomatoes
  • 5.5 ounces tomato juice
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce 

Instructions: 

  1. Boil water and cook pasta according to package directions.  
  2. In a separate pot, add butter and onion and sauté about 4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute. 
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. 
  4. Add green pepper and cook till soft--about 5 minutes. 
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, sauce, juice, paste, sugar, spices, and Worcestershire Sauce. Cook until evenly heated.
  6. Add the cooked pasta and stir to coat. Add salt and pepper to taste. 

Recipe Variations:

Consider using ground turkey instead of ground beef, adding 1-2 cups of mozzarella or parmesan cheese, or adding mushrooms to make this just right for you and your family.
