“I love my job right now.” That’s how owner Mike Jarmaillo started our conversation for this article, and I could feel that sentiment in everything he said about AMK Hardscapes. “I love the guys I have surrounding me. Mike says they’ve had several employees who have started their own businesses. “We’ve helped a lot of people, including two brothers. We helped one of them get his Commercial Driving License (CDL), and now he has his own truck and earth-moving company. His brother also worked with us and now has his own siding business.”
Early on, Mike and his brother planned to start the company and grow it together. Unfortunately, Mike’s brother passed away. “I decided to keep the plan going and make it happen.” That commitment shows in the company’s success and dedication to quality. They offer a 10 year warranty, and some products have a lifetime warranty. “As an ICPI certified business, we’re held to a high standard and guidelines for this climate. The installation process is just different here in Colorado because of the changing temperatures and movement during the freezing months.”
For Mike, it’s about relationships. “Seeing our clients happy is so awesome! You get to know your clients and make some incredible friendships in this business.”
March to December is the company’s primary season, but AMK Hardscapes does jobs year-round. Mike personally makes an appearance at every job site. “It’s a close-knit family operation. Our guys often get tipped at the end of a job, because we go out of our way to leave a site pristine when we’re done. Our crews treat your home like it was the business owner’s house.”
“There really isn’t any piece of our work I haven’t personally done, so every once in a while I’ll jump in. My crews and even clients are sometimes surprised.” Early on, Mike saw the importance of staying in touch with what his crews needed and equipping them to do the job well. “We take a lot of pride in what we do. We know exactly what's going to happen, and we make sure you do, too.”
