Art of Cozy

Fall Decorating Tips from a Local Designer

As the air cools and the days grow shorter, there’s a natural pull to cozy up and reflect the

changing season inside your home. Making your space feel inviting for the season isn't about

redecorating everything; it’s about layering in texture, soft lighting, and subtle seasonal details

that signal the shift to fall.

Here are a few ways to make your home feel cozy this season:

Layer in Soft Textures

It’s time to bring out the blankets! There’s a good chance you didn’t store them too far, so bring

out those soft and comforting throws. Adding warm blankets to your couch and bed is one of

the best ways to be able to cozy up as the evenings get cooler. While many people like to bring

out fall colors, there’s no rule that says you have to! Any soft fabric that makes you feel

comfortable and complements your style will create that cozy feeling.

Add Warm, Ambient Lighting

As the days get shorter, lighting becomes one of the simplest ways to create a cozy mood at

home. Add accent lighting such as table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces in key areas like your

entry, living room, bedroom, and even the kitchen. It’s also a nice bonus if the lights are synced

to a timer to automatically turn on as evening sets in.

Add Seasonal Foliage

Refreshing your floral arrangements and vases around the house is an easy and elegant way to

transition into fall. You can add a few seasonal stems to your existing arrangement to tie in the

season, or you can do a full refresh with your larger statement arrangements in your entry or on

your door. Quality life-like faux floral arrangements are no maintenance and can be used year

after year, and mixing in some real branches and greenery from your own yard can make the

arrangement feel fresh and personal.

Bring in Fall Scents

One of the most important ways to make your home feel like fall is to bring in your favorite

seasonal scent. Choose a new candle or reed diffuser that makes you feel the most cozy, and

while the tried and true scents are a must-have, it’s fun to find new scents to try as well! Cozy doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead of buying too much pumpkin themed decor, focus

on layering warmth, texture, and your favorite seasonal details, and your home will naturally feel

like a place to slow down and enjoy the season.
