We are excited to highlight Boise artist, Ashley Dreyfus who was recently selected from 4,000 submissions to win the 2020 Pabst Blue Ribbon Art Can Contest.
When did you start drawing and develop your unique style?
I have been drawing pretty much since I could pick up a pencil. Cartooning has always been my main style. Three years ago I decided to start a 365 drawing a day challenge in which I draw and post a new piece of art every day. This practice has really solidified my art style and characters. My characters that I call Alter Egos are just humans in their most natural form, with no gender, who are living their lives without judgement.
What was your motivation for submitting to the 2020 Pabst Blue Ribbon Art Can Contest?
It has always been a goal of mine to see my art and style represented on merchandise such as t-shirts and posters. The PBR art can contest really challenged me to create a piece of art based on peoples’ lifestyle during the pandemic. I wanted to create a visual of people staying home and enjoying themselves during this last year.
What’s next in your art career?
Mural painting is one of my huge passions, and I hope to travel and seek out new venues and opportunities to participate in public art projects. My dream in my art career is to meet other artists and share ideas and meaningful collaborations with them.
Who do you admire and why?
Some of my inspirations in life and art include Hayao Miyazaki, Peter Max and Keith Haring.
