Q: What are the five essential pieces every man should own, and why are they worth the investment?
Jeff: Start with a crisp, well-fitted white dress shirt. We produce ours in Italy with a semi-spread collar, mitered cuffs, and French placket. It may seem simple, but there is a sincerity to a white shirt that other colors do not quite convey. When you want to be taken seriously, it works.
Second, every man should own a pair of black cap-toe dress shoes. Like a crisp white shirt, they are simple, but they communicate that you mean business.
A dark navy suit is another essential. There is hardly an event, from a wedding to a funeral to a business meeting, where you cannot wear one. It always looks crisp and sharp.
Fourth is a blue Oxford button-down, the workhorse of a well-dressed man's wardrobe. It is a classic choice for nearly everything outside of a suit.
Finally, invest in a great pair of loafers, preferably in dark brown or black. Suede can be a nice touch. A good loafer elevates everything from casual outfits to casual suiting.
Q: What are the biggest fit mistakes you see men make?
Jeff: Men are still buying clothes that are too slim. Styles change, and our youngest, most fashionable clients are asking for more room in their garments. Not baggy, but a little more comfortable and relaxed than what we've seen over the last 10 to 15 years.
Q: How can men balance classic style with current trends?
Jeff: Menswear tends to change every 15 to 20 years. Right now, we're seeing a lot of neutrals, particularly for spring and destination weddings. Beige, putty gray, and ivory are strong choices for dinner jackets.
Q: What are your top tips for looking polished without appearing overdressed?
Jeff: There are worse things than being overdressed. Wear what makes you feel confident. Confidence almost always outworks style.
Q: What accessories can elevate an outfit?
Jeff: Sometimes removing an accessory makes you look more modern. We're seeing more trousers with side tabs instead of belt loops. If the pants fit correctly at the waist, you shouldn't need a belt. Vintage watches are also on the rise. They do not have to be expensive. A classic, timeless watch can make you look smarter.
Q: What's the one piece of advice you wish every man knew before shopping?
Jeff: Do your research. Know what you like before you come in, especially for custom clothing. We have thousands of fabrics, and that can be overwhelming.
