At Home with Rebeca Saint

Meet the Founder of Velvet Home Staging

It's after hours, and Rebeca Saint is relaxing at home. She’s tending to some houseplants, her smiling five-year-old daughter by her side. At the end of a long but exciting workday, there's nowhere Saint, the owner of Velvet Home Staging, would rather be.

Speaking from her Alamo residence, she shared her belief that “every home has a personality.” Her job is to work with it.

Whether preparing a property for sale or creating a move-in-ready space, Saint wants potential buyers to experience that same feeling she has when she walks through her own front door — a sense that they’ve come home.

Her passion for people and where they live has made her a leader in local luxury home staging. But long before she was transforming houses, Saint was equally passionate about traveling.

After earning a degree in tourism in her native Venezuela, she spent the early part of her career organizing VIP experiences for Formula One races, World Cup tournaments, and other major sporting events.

The job allowed her to explore Europe, South America, and North America, where she developed an appreciation for different cultures, architecture, and design styles.

That appreciation would later shape the design philosophy behind Velvet Home Staging, which has served approximately 600 homes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area since it opened eight years ago.

Saint added that among the communities she works in, Walnut Creek is one of her favorites and one of Contra Costa County’s most vibrant cities, where homes sell quickly.

Ironically, Saint didn’t set out to become a sought-after designer. After moving to the United States 15 years ago, she spent time remodeling and decorating her condo. A friend admired the finished space and asked who had staged it.

"I said, 'What is staging?'" Saint recalled with a laugh.

That simple conversation led her to take on small home improvement projects before she eventually purchased her staging business, which operates from a warehouse in central San Leandro.

“At first I had no clue what I was doing … but I made it happen!”

Saint does not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” design strategy. Creating an emotional connection is just as important as selecting the right furniture, she said. One of the most overlooked details is scent.

"Fresh scents, clean carpets and subtle diffusers help buyers feel welcome from the moment they walk through the front door.”

Although she has built a successful life in the Bay Area, Saint still carries Venezuela close to her heart. She paused to reflect on the recent earthquake there and expressed concern for loved ones affected by the tragedy.

Saint strives to balance entrepreneurship with motherhood, noting that she often brings her daughter along to warehouse visits and walkthroughs.

In an increasingly digital world, Saint prides herself on being fully present — for her family, her friends and her clients.

"I like a personal touch,” she said. “I’ll show photos of a finished house that I especially love to my mom, my husband, and my daughter!”

As fall approaches, Saint recommends simple seasonal updates rather than a complete redesign. Warm-toned throw pillows, lanterns near the front door, and natural accents like pampas grass can instantly create a cozy atmosphere.

After immigrating to a new country and changing careers while building a life with her family in the East Bay, Saint discovered that home is not defined by a single address.

Rather, she said: “It’s a feeling.”
