At Matson Alarm, Safety Runs in the Family

It’s safe to say that as Director of Business Development for Matson Alarm, Rebecca Purtz knows how to keep a home and business secure and protected. Her dad Larry Matson and uncle Mike Matson started their family business Matson Alarm, which Purtz calls a “labor of love.” The two brothers built the company just after graduating high school back in 1974, upon seeing a need for home security where they lived in Fresno, CA. Discovering her passion was in the family business, Purtz followed in their footsteps and joined the team after getting her degree from University of Southern California. With an office in Franklin, Matson Alarm is serving the greater Nashville area by providing a wide range of security products covering everything from fire alarms to camera systems to make sure their customers are safe.

Matson Alarm not only provides products and security systems that will keep homes and businesses safe, they also strive to bring solutions that simplify customers’ lives, all while complementing a space’s style. “We are a security company that combines lifestyle products and ease of use aspects into security
protection,” she explains. “It’s all about making customers’ lives easier through convenience and comfort. Our systems are very user-friendly. For example, scenes can be set so that at the push of a button lights are dimmed throughout the house, doors lock, and the security system is armed. These customizations are unique and based on each customer’s wants and needs.”

Products including light switches, door locks, and video doorbells are just some of the many items that can be customized with different style and color options to match any décor. “A true home automation system should be seamless and that includes the design of it,” she explains. “We offer different styles and
colors on many of our products because every customer’s home is unique with a different style or décor, and we want our systems to integrate into the home’s aesthetic.”
When it comes to what you can do to protect your property--especially when traveling during the holiday season--Purtz has some helpful reminders and suggestions. “The simplest security tip is to keep your doors and windows locked!” she says. “The next is to arm your security system if you have one. For more
robust security protection we suggest automated lighting. Lights can turn on and off automatically so it will look like you’re at home when you’re not. You can also have them scheduled to turn on [and] off at different times so that people can’t detect a pattern.”

For those looking to take their security to the next level, Purtz encourages adding a degree of video monitoring to homes and businesses. “One easy solution for customers is to get a video doorbell,” she advises. “In a way it is self-monitored, but it’s great because if you are away from home, you can see who is coming to your house. For commercial customers, video monitoring is so helpful, especially for our clients who have large properties. We can tell if there is actually an intruder on the premises or if it was just an animal setting off the alarm. It greatly reduces the need for us to call our clients in the middle of the night for a potential false alarm!” MatsonAlarm.com
