A love like no other

Pregnancy is a journey like no other- a time filled with wonder, anticipation, excitement, and transformation. These moms and moms-to-be share some of their tips and experiences to highlight the beauty of becoming a parent and how to navigate a growing family, and belly. 

Lindsey Patillo-Keene

How did you navigate the challenges of pregnancy? 

I was fearful of pregnancy and parenthood for years before we made the decision to have a baby, so going into pregnancy I promised to be gentle with myself as changes and challenges arose. I attended regular pelvic floor therapy sessions at Nesin Pelvic Floor Therapy, and I scheduled prenatal massages often. Physical activity is a must, so I kept up my yoga practice which brought a lot of peace and happiness to me.

How do you dress for success during pregnancy? 

Thrifting, buying 1-2 sizes bigger on a few items, and elastic waist bands. Thankfully my wardrobe didn’t change much, and I still felt comfortable and fashionable. 

One tip for new or expecting moms? 

Prioritize self care before, during, and after pregnancy so that you can better care for your new addition. Also, get diapers and other necessities delivered to your house so that stress is off your plate!

How did you navigate the challenges of pregnancy? 

I confided in family and friends with kids who were empathetic and supportive. It's okay to lean on those you trust for emotional support and be clear about your needs and boundaries.

Smart Snoo Bassinet, Dockatot, Doona carseat.
 

One tip for new or expecting moms? 

TRUST YOUR GUT! 

How do you dress for success during pregnancy? 

I tried to avoid wearing maternity pants, so I chose stretchy fabrics and solid dresses. I liked to add a dash of professionalism with a coat featuring structured lapels, or an oversized blazer. 

What was your biggest pregnancy craving?

With all 3 of them I wanted Lavashak, which is a sour Persian snack similar to fruit rolls.

How did you navigate the challenges of becoming pregnant? 

There was a point when I had to distance myself from friends who were getting pregnant because it was a constant reminder of what we were struggling with. 

Finally becoming pregnant after so many failed attempts at IVF can feel like a bittersweet victory. Every day brings a mix of hope and anxiety, constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.  It’s hard to shake the feeling that something may go wrong after everything you’ve been through.

One tip for new or expecting moms? 

The newborn phase and breastfeeding is tough, but it does get easier. 

How do you dress for success during pregnancy? 

I rented clothes from Nuuly! Maternity wear is so temporary, so it was a fun way to experiment with styles I wouldn’t typically buy or wear.

Favorite healthy pregnancy meal?

I enjoyed eating salmon over a bed of quinoa, with black beans, edamame, chopped tomatoes, and avocado. I felt nourished.

How did you navigate the challenges of pregnancy? 

My first pregnancy I focused on regular exercise and eating healthy. Now, I prioritize soaking up time with my toddler and preparing her for the excitement of becoming a sister, while nourishing my body and fitting in exercise when I can. Rest is not as easy this time around, but I am surviving!

Top 3 must have baby products?

Coconut oil, Earthley products (tummy relief, feel better fast, teeth tamer), Wearable pump (Willow)

One tip for new or expecting moms? 

See a chiropractor! And go with the flow. Strict schedules don't work for all families and for us it was easier to fit baby into our lives than the other way around. 

Favorite healthy meal during pregnancy?

If you know me you know I love ALL the food. Right now I'm on a cottage cheese with berries and nuts kick.
