The Cherry Tree Foundation is a nonprofit that honors the legacy of Kathryn Marie Sottile, who passed on Nov. 23, 2024, after battling leukemia. The group provides college scholarships to high school students pursuing music and education careers.
After Kate's sister, Melissa Tenzer, established the Foundation in January 2025, trustees awarded their first $5,000 scholarship during August 2025 to a Neshaminy graduate attending Bucks County Community College.
Currently, Foundation supporters are hosting a fundraiser in Newtown on April 22 at The Temperance House at 4:30 p.m., with a silent auction, passed hors d’oeuvres and music.
Kate graduated from Neshaminy High School and Millersville University. She was known as an exceptional teacher at Pearl Buck for 30-plus years. She performed at various local venues, including Yardley Inn, Temperance House, Washington Crossing Inn and Continental Tavern.
